Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie McMahon.
Bonnie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My husband and I had been involved with youth sports for many years and felt a lack of great quality programming. Saturday’s were our favorite day of the week, as we would awake early to get to the field to coach our kids and visit with our teams. After much frustration with the programs we were participating in we said, it can’t be that difficult to provide a better quality better organized youth sports experience. In late 2011 we set out to provide a better youth sports experience for our own two kids. We began 3 blocks from our competitor and by our second sports season had tripled in growth. Individuals began approaching us that wanted to offer the same great quality product in their area. We quickly had to figure out how to franchise. We did and today we have 25 locations of One Sports Nation league locations across 7 states. We offer flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and cheer programs for ages 3-18. Our programs use pro branded jerseys and we focus on player development. Our program rules mimic high school rules as we believe teaching players the right way to play from the beginning with a focus on FUNdamentals. One Sports Nation game day is a family fun atmosphere with huge game day tents, team benches, team banners, music and food.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes, we have had struggles like every business.
We had to figure out how to franchise, which was years of ongoing research.
City Parks: every city has different rules regarding public park usage, so each location we launch a league our franchise owners must navigate those difficult regulations that do not allow the public to use parks for kids to practice.
Supply Chain: building our supply chain to deliver consistency at all our locations.
Technology: in this every changing world of technology we consistency update/upgrade our website functionality to deliver the best experience for our customers and franchise owners.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about One Sports Nation – what should we know?
One Sports Nation started from actively engaged parents that had a vision to deliver a better youth sports experience for their kids and the families in their community.
ONE Mission
A Dual Focus: To develop young athletes and prepare them for their next level of competition while keeping them excited about playing sports.
ONE Quality Programming
Develop programming that Honors the Game by keeping the program rules as close to high school rules as possible with due consideration for the various age divisions that we serve and teaching kids the right way, the first time.
We provide coach training to increase the quality of adult leadership in our leagues that promotes the delivery of a positive youth sports experience for each player consistent with the Mission and Vision of ONE SPORTS NATION. We encourage a healthy balance of “want-to-win” but, “don’t-have-to-win” competitive fun atmosphere.
ONE Great Franchise Opportunity:
We are raising the bar on youth sports experiences and offering you an opportunity to own your own business in the thriving youth sports industry. Our system offers the Best Quality for customers and Best Investment for entrepreneurs.
Are you searching for more information on a youth sports franchise because you want to run your own business? And make money doing what you love?
If so, then you’re a lot like us. Scott & Bonnie started One Sports Nation to raise the bar in youth sports experiences. As a coach and parent, we simply couldn’t understand why existing youth sports leagues were so poorly organized – so we set out to make our community better. And now we are helping other aspiring business owners become leaders in their community. Our first franchise owner started his ONE Sports Nation with a part time effort as he continued to work his primary job. But after just 9 months of operating his ONE Sports Nation franchise, he left his job and pursued his passion full time. Today he owns 2 locations and serves hundreds of families every season doing what he loves. He enjoys the financial freedom and lifestyle that business ownership offers, you can too.
Any shootouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Early on in our history, we had to quickly figure out how to franchise. Through our business connections in Phoenix, we were introduced to a gentleman named, Bob Bingham. Bob was the CEO of The Little Gym a thriving franchise system with over 300 locations worldwide. Bob was gracious enough to spend a couple hours with Scott sharing his experience and guidance on launching a successful franchise system.
We followed Bob’s advice, and it has turned out to be the best advise we received on how to grow a successful franchise system.
Bob continues to be a mentor to us and we greatly appreciate his wisdom.
