Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaire Hinks.

Blaire, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a mother of 6, 3 girls and 3 boys. Their ages range from 13 to 3 years.

I remember coming home with my first baby and knowing that I loved him, but was scared to death of him at the same time. My birth plan didn’t go as planned and I felt like a failure. I went from selfish to selfless in a matter of hours. That transition hit me hard. I felt ashamed that I was not in this euphoric state and my emotional roller coaster took a toll on my self-esteem as a mother. People told me everything I was feeling was normal, but I didn’t feel normal. A friend that was part of my “village” brought me dinner and asked how I was. I decided to be vulnerable and give her an honest answer. Instead of saying “you’ll be ok” and normalizing my feelings, she validated me and just listened without judgment. That open ear and a warm meal was a catalyst for things to come.

I realized that something was missing in the postpartum recovery period for women. We focus so much on the new arrival and not mom. As a mother of six, I became a certified lactation counselor, postpartum doula and babywearing instructor, I’m on a mission to help other families have a more informative, empowering and compassionate journey into parenthood. I help moms with anything that assists their recovery and their journey as a new mom.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My business has been growing in such an organic way. I want the business to move and grow at the same pace as a new mother would when she is learning about her new baby. It’s about moving slow and creating space. I am constantly learning and changing things along the way and I love that about it.

Lille Landsby, which means “little village” in Danish, is an in home postpartum care company. As a certified lactation counselor, postpartum doula, and baby wearing instructor, I bring the knowledge and experience to help new moms through their postpartum recovery. I assist in the new and sometimes difficult learning curve of breastfeeding and focus on mom solely so that she can focus and bond with her new addition. This involves doing everything around the house to ease the stress of life, to errands, sibling transition, and being a non-judgmental soundboard for mom to express all the emotions that occur with the transition into motherhood. I love to go into the home before the baby comes to prepare new parents about what happens after the baby is born. We over-prepare for baby and don’t think about the mother’s recovery. It is a complete transformation that can be beautiful and difficult at the same time.

The best part of my company is that if I can’t solve an issue I have a “village” of references to help in whatever the family may need. The parents can just focus on themselves and their new addition. I love the confidence the parents get from just a little love and attention to their needs. They transfer this confidence into their little one and those first weeks/months are looked back upon in a positive light.

Having the experience of my own I am able to completely relate to all levels with new mothers. I have experience with special needs and traumatic births on a personal and professional level. I also have both a personal and education-based approach to breastfeeding.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Relatable. When you are at your most vulnerable state, having someone who can be right there with you, in the trenches to hold you up or lean on, that can go a long way with a client!
