Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Maaske.
Bill, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always been passionate about photography, but the need to have a “real” career led down other paths for a long time. Several years ago I decided to dive back into something that fulfilled me creatively. I experimented with various forms of photography, learned everything I could about digital photography (I learned to shoot on film originally), and finally fell in love with portrait photography.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Not only do I have the privilege of making art that I find extremely satisfying for me, but I also get to work with our clients to express their passions, crazy dreams, and visions.
My photography studio, YouAsArt.com, creates beautiful, expressive and fun heirloom art pieces that will last for generations. We work with our clients to discover the things about them that are most unique and then put together a plan to translate that vision and deliver it as photographic art.
Our concepts can be simple or extremely complex on location shoots that take weeks of planning. We often work with stylist and hair and makeup technicians to deliver our collective vision.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Find your community of like-minded people and listen to their advice and constructive criticism. Critique your past work every so often so you can see how far you have come. It is quite humbling to remember how proud you were of something that you now think is not that good. Even when it feels like life is pulling you away from your art, be sure to never put it down for too long.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
