Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth McRae.
Hi Beth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I bought High Society Resale Boutique, founded in 1984, in March of 2022. I gave it a beautiful makeover, and now it is one of the most upscale women’s clothing and accessories shops in town. It is one of the happiest and most enjoyable places to shop. Additionally, I own and operate a full-service PR firm called The McRae Agency, which has come in handy for marketing the boutique. I love being in the resale world as I believe in sustainability and reusing/recycling merchandise. We have a lovely and loyal sales team, as well as customers.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
While I have a PR and marketing background, I just now have a retail background. Retail is a different animal, so I’ve had to learn all about it and the consignment world. While it was a steep learning curve initially, we are in a great groove now with a fabulous new manager.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in high-quality women’s clothing, bags, jewelry, shoes, accessories, and anything a woman might want in the fashion realm. Since High Society was founded in 1984 (I am the third owner), we have benefited from a longtime and loyal crowd. People visiting the Phoenix/Scottsdale area always make a point of coming in. I am proud that, unlike other resale stores, our customers feel loved and happy to consign their beautiful items and shop. We have an excellent reputation in the industry and are known for having the best and most helpful employees in town.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’m lucky that two of my “competitors” are good friends, and we share information and best practices. I am a member of several women’s organizations and support numerous charities, all of which help me get the word out about High Society.
