Meet Ben Holland of Scorpion Sweepers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Holland.

Ben, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started back in 2005 when I started interning in the reptile lab at Arizona State University. There we would catch scorpions in the alleys of Tempe to support the lab. The month after I graduated I started Scorpion Sweepers, using our methods to help families prevent scorpions on their properties. After years of refining our methods and growing our client base, we have become the premier scorpion prevention company in Arizona.

Has it been a smooth road?
Fairly smooth. We work on implementing new services like Property Wall Sealing to help eliminate scorpions more effectively. The biggest issue is finding new clients, with such a niche service we can be hard to find.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Scorpion Sweepers story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a fully licensed pest control company that focuses solely on scorpions. We do it without the use of any chemicals, dusts or pesticides. We use Ultraviolet floodlights to hand remove the scorpions from properties. While we are doing this we look for areas of high density and where they are living so we can give recommendations on how to prevent the habitats they were utilizing. Hopefully, we can find the source, sometimes the local like a woodpile or bed of rocks or it can be external coming from an alley, wash or neighboring property. Once we see how bad the problem we are aggressive to quickly and efficiently eliminate the problem.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
More personalized treatments and less use of chemicals. People are more cognizant of the harms of pesticides and are looking for safer solutions to prevent pests.
