Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Patterson.
Leaving your small-town home at the age of fifteen and learning how to maneuver life before your flight feathers come in is no easy feat. Not many people know this better than Bailey Patterson. Bounded by youth to a town where your name is your legacy, Bailey had to be resourceful, cunning, and ambitious in order to succeed on her own. Working hard, she occupied each precious ounce of spare time dabbling in the arts and surrounding herself with faithful friends. She grew up alongside Joshua Wade, a friend who introduced her to the power of music, and together they spent their days making it.
In 2014, Josh was involved in a tragic accident that left Bailey without her best friend. It was this event that opened her eyes to the true importance of molding your life around the things that make you the happiest. The videos she had created of her and Josh singing together became all she had left of the one person whom she can credit for her newfound passion. In this, she realized the importance of having permanent memories that exist outside of the mind. Memories that we can share with others; memories that we can watch over and over; memories that don’t fade.
She left her business degree at NAU and vowed to dedicate her education and career to filmmaking, dedicate her new life to see the world and dedicate her time to making her relationships count. These epiphanies led her to begin filmmaking in parts of Europe, Africa, and South America. Bailey now works full time as a visual media creator to produce these tangible souvenirs. She is currently traveling the West Coast as a rodeo videographer and producing multiple different series of passion projects.
Through her work of freelance photography and videography, she has the ability to hand someone a digital file of their very favorite moments. She spends every day making sure she never misses those special moments because you can’t live a moment twice.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge I have faced along my filmmaking journey is the personal conviction to become proficient in all areas of the process. Some of the most memorable advice I have ever received came from a wonderful woman by the name of Romell Foster-Owens, an Emmy Award winning producer and writer. She advised, “as a woman, the key to success in this trade is mastering every aspect of it.”
There are so many questions that a new freelance visual media creator comes to the field with. The goal is to dedicate the time to find the answers. Whether it is through seeking out a mentor, reading articles, watching hours of YouTube videos or spending thousands of dollars at film school, the challenge is aquiring as much knowledge as possible. Even then, the invaluable tutor is the process of trial and error. This process is effective but it can take years of constructive criticism from both yourself and from others in order to better your work. The road is not a smooth one. However, with relentless dedication and a true passion for the art of storytelling, I am able to make a living doing what I love.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Bailey Crawford Media, or BCM, is a production company that works to provide clients with a special way to tell their story, whether the story is presented in a still shot or rolling film. Specializing in portrait photography and event videography, I work to stylistically promote and brand individuals, small businesses and large corporations. Over the years, I have created content of rodeos all across the west coast, documented the journey of professional MMA fighters, showcased the skills of CrossFit champions, and told the stories of expecting mothers and engaged lovebirds.
My company’s goal is to work with our clients so that we are able to effectively freeze those special moments in time and record those memories to cherish forever. You are the one with the story. I am here to bring it to life.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the area I live in. Arizona is an incredible state. One hour north, there are snowy mountains, one hour south, there is hot desert sand covered in cacti. Phoenix is in the center of it all. Phoenix, Arizona, has a lot of hustle and bustle. The business and economic market here is thriving. The busyness of it all can, sometimes, become overwhelming. However, with red mountains, beautiful lakes, green forest trees, and desert tundras, Arizona is a photographer’s dream.
