Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayanna Hawkins
Hi Ayanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got started in real estate sales with the intention of investing with my husband. We planned to do fix and flips, where he would handle the fixing and flipping, and I would list them on the open market. I started real estate school and upon delving more into the industry didn’t think that was the right time for us to start investing, so instead I started into real estate sales.
I found very quickly that real estate sales was the career path I had been searching for for the better part of my adult life and here I am, 8 years later, still thriving.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No. My first year was horrible in 2017, as most people’s are. I may have closed 2 deals, and it felt like forever for that to even happen. But with the support of my husband, I kept fighting until I finally got my footing during my second year. Then we made a cross country move to Arizona in 2019 and I had to start my business all over again, with no sphere, not knowing anyone here. Then COVID hit, and threw yet another monkey wrench into my business. I went part time in 2020, while working a contract job with the US Census, but came back into the game strong towards the end of 2020 and went on a rampage! To be able to be here, 8 years in, still amazes me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Realtor. I specialize in assisting everyone from buyers to sellers to renters achieve their real estate goals. I’m known for making real estate fun, engaging, and stress-free while delivering top-notch expertise. I live by the motto ‘Make Real Estate Fun Again’, blending humor with expertise to create a memorable experience for my clients. I take great pride in being a trusted resource for my clients, guiding them through every step of their real estate journey. I’m also honored to have received the President’s Roundtable Award from the WeServe Board of Realtors in both 2022 and 2023 as well as other awards and honors.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For those just starting out, I’d say to never discount the importance of networking and getting to know other professionals in the industry. Because there are so many of us, there are also no two of us who do things the same, so you can learn so much from so many different sources.
If I had to answer the question if there was one thing I knew starting out, what would it be, I’d say I wish I knew how to organize my business for the long haul early in my career. I was so busy working in my businesses when I first started – trying to generate business, that I put organizing my business on the back burner and found myself scrambling later on trying to figure it out. So I say to anyone newer, start organizing your contacts NOW as if you’ll have 50,000 of them in the next year, so that once you have that many, the hard work has already been done.
