Avianna and Chelsea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2017 my sister (Chelsea) approached me with the idea of starting a business off selling leggings via Facebook Live videos. Our own personal QVC, if you will. My initial response was live videos?! No way, I wasn’t interested. She approached me again a few weeks later and ran some more details by me. My ears perked at this new information and we decided, hey, why not try. What do we have to lose?! It was nerve wracking at first and we started with a phone, a few leggings and a drying rack you use to hang your wet clothes on! I don’t know how but it took off and we now have a full boutique style setup and studio! It’s definitely challenging and different than most business models out there, but it’s so much fun!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, definitely not. like any business, we’ve had our ups and downs. Some downs are things that are completely out of our control as well which can be frustrating. Facebook algorithms are one of those challenges we have to face constantly. Facebook only shows your Live video notifications to 10% of your page likes/followers! When I found that out I was shocked! We’ve had to come up with other methods to reach our customers such as email blasts and text notifications. It’s tough, but we make it work!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our model and the way we sell our products set us apart! We have our selling show where we sell women’s clothing and accessories via Facebook live videos! Its a business model/concept unlike most. Without the Lives, our business wouldn’t exist! We have also built a family, a community, around our Live shows. We have people tune in to shop, of course, but it has evolved into so much more than that. Our viewers tune in when they need a laugh, a supportive community to vent, or to share exciting news – it’s truly a family, with members from all over! We are proud of the positive environment we’ve created. We’ve made sure to pay special attention to the vibe and energy our company portrays and I believe it shows.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Transparency and building relationships with our customers. They do not just order numbers behind a screen with us – we talk constantly during our Live shows. The type of connection we have with our customers is truly special and the most important aspect of our success. Without them we are nothing.
