Meet Austin Byler of Major League University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Byler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Major League University was founded in the summer of 2018 by two former college teammates during professional baseball. We recognized a massive need for student-athletes and the mental side of sports to help develop them for lives after baseball.

As for me, I experienced major anxiety and depression during professional baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks which eventually led to me getting released and retiring. I was in a rabbit hole for a long time and knew a ton of teammates who were experiencing the exact same emotions.

My partner Kewby Meyer and I decided we were going to do something about this. We collaborated together with the hopes of educating and empowering student-athletes through life skills and leadership development designed to equip athletes for life after sports. We made it our mission to impact the game in a way that is different from the usual status quo.

Today, we can proudly say we are accomplishing our mission. The growth and support that we have experienced has been incredibly gratifying and humbling. Our company has major visions for the future as we want to impact millions of people in this world!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. There have been some major roadblocks and challenges along the way.

1. Our first challenge was solidifying a vision. We didn’t know exactly what route we wanted to take, but we did know we wanted to make a major impact in the baseball community. This has led to multiple ideas/avenues that have not always been successful, but it has created the team we are today. Not all things will be pretty in the beginning, but with consistency and persistence, you can do anything you set your mind to!

2. Handling the objections. The mental side of sports is on the rise. With that being said, there are a lot of people who still are not fully bought in on the idea of what we teach athletes. We have dealt with countless “NO’s” and objections.. but every objection leads to a new opportunity.

We are extremely blessed to be in the position that we are today. There is so much to be thankful for in our pursuit of changing the way the world thinks. All roads will have roadblocks and hurdles, but the ones who cross the finish line are the ones who never give up.

Major League University – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in the mental side of sports. We help athletes get rid of limiting beliefs that hold them back from their true potential. A few ways we accomplish this is by individual peak performance coaching, group peak performance coaching and in-person clinics/seminars.

We work with college, high school and travel organizations via peak performance and leadership development workshops. These workshops are anywhere from 1-3 days and the mission is to equip that organization for their upcoming year!

We are now encompassing the entire UNIVERSITY aspect of our name with some upcoming courses we will be releasing as well as expanding into different sectors of the game (nutrition, weight training, hitting, etc.). This is very exciting and we LOVE seeing the vision come to life!

I would say we are most proud of our ability to stay in the fight. The entrepreneurial world can beat you up if you are not well equipped personally, and we have hung in the fight. Every day is a new opportunity and we have kept a positive attitude that has lead to some early success!

The thing that sets us apart from other companies is our story and the people. We have experienced some major setbacks and trials in our lives. These testimonies have allowed us to share with the next generation and help them avoid some of the mistakes and mishaps we went through.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has been going into a college locker room and seeing the instant transformation in a student-athlete. There is no better feeling than seeing an individual BELIEVE in themself and conquer all limiting beliefs that they may hold internally.

I am extremely proud of the hard work we are putting in to make our dream a reality. The relentless pursuit of impacting millions of people has provided the gas in the fuel tank to drive us to our dreams!
