Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Young.
Aubrey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am passionate about orthodontics and helping people feel confident about their smiles and overall health. I have been caring for patients at Chamberlain-Young Orthodontics for almost 4 years and I have been caring for patients in the field of dentistry for over two decades. My journey in dentistry began in Utah when I was 14 years old. I had my two front teeth knocked backward into my mouth. I had emergency root canals where my dentist showed me the nerves inside my teeth. I was so intrigued and I was hooked on the idea of being a dentist. No one in my family had graduated from college and I didn’t have any sound advice on how to make this goal a reality, so I began by earning my Dental Assistant Certificate while I was a senior in high school. I worked as a dental assistant while I went to college. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Weber State University after which I practiced as a dental hygienist for 10 years.
Finally, I had the opportunity to begin pursuing my dream of being a dentist at UNLV. I graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine with the honor of being named Valedictorian of my dental school class. I fell in love with orthodontics while I was working as a dental hygienist and after dental school, I attended UNLV Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for 30 months of specialty training in Orthodontics and received my Masters of Oral Biology defending my thesis in the field of stem cell research. I came to AZ nearly 4 years ago and have been practicing with Dr. Tom Chamberlain. I have recently purchased the practice and become a partner in our practice located in Chandler. I absolutely love what I do and I feel abundant gratitude for the opportunity to be educated in the dental profession. One of the most amazing parts of working with Dr. Chamberlain in our practice is finding unique ways to give back to our community. I look forward to many years of sharing my knowledge and skills and giving back to the beautiful community of Chandler.
Has it been a smooth road?
I definitely took the long road to achieve my dream. I wouldn’t change the experiences that I had to get to where I am, but it was challenging to continue to try to figure out what was the next step. I was in the work force for 8 years before I went back to school for my pre-requisites for dental school. I worked full time as a hygienist, and I went to school in the morning and in the evenings. When I started dental school, my boys were 3 and 5 and I moved my family out of state to achieve my dream. Juggling motherhood with a rigorous school schedule was very challenging and also very rewarding.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Chamberlain-Young Orthodontics is an Orthodontic practice that specializes in Damon Braces and Invisalign. I focus on very detail oriented aesthetically driven orthodontics that not only address the teeth but the whole face. I am devoted to achieving beautiful treatment outcomes that are a balance of aesthetics and function and are not only beautiful today but also help to maintain beauty during aging. I specialize in both children and adult treatment with 40% of our patients currently being adults. I love creating relationships with other dental care professionals in the community to provide comprehensive dental care to our mutual patients. We have an incredible team and have taken a lot of care to train them to be meticulous in their work. We all work to together create a fun experience for our patients.
We love to give back to the community and in fall of 2016 in our mission of giving back locally, we offered a tremendous opportunity for teachers in Chandler. The first 25 teachers to call were offered absolutely free orthodontics treatment (valued at $5,000 each). We had an amazing response and filled all 25 spots, and teachers were ever so thankful. We have continued that every year since with a waiting list that fills up very quickly and continues to offer this amazing opportunity for Chandler teachers.
We also do yearly essay contests at local high schools for free braces for kids in need, so far we have done with Hamilton High/Chandler high/Boys and Girls Club of East Valley/ICAN. We also do a Giving Tree every Christmas to help bring smiles to families during Christmas through local organizations and in the last couple of years have helped 100 Club of AZ, ICAN, House of Refuge, Boys & Girls Club Of East Valley. We do a candy buy back every year at Halloween and donate the candy to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for their Care Carts.
We try our best to be in touch with the community needs and do drives to collect items and help out in any way we can.
We absolutely love being part of the Chandler Community and know that nothing is more satisfying than just giving to someone without expecting something in return. Most of the time with giving back, you don’t always see the people you are helping, but you know that your actions created smiles on the side of the giver and the one being helped.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Love the small community feel we have in Chandler. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. So happy that I made the move to Phoenix and would recommend anyone to start a business here.
