Meet Ashley Oakes Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Oakes Scott.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in the marketing industry for 14 years. I graduated from Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University and began my career with a local public relations agency, Decibel Blue. I learned so much working for that agency and was able take my skills to my next job at Zion & Zion, a full-service marketing agency in Tempe. I started the PR and Social Media department there and as I grew in my career, so did my position. I became an Account Manager and oversaw a full suite of services for my clients while still implementing PR and Social Media strategy. I worked with small, local businesses and internationally known brands in a variety of industries. Learning how to intertwine multiple marketing services into each client to meet KPI’s helped me to understand that creating the right mix for a business is important, and that selling them a service that might not be the best service will only hinder their success.

I now own my own boutique agency specializing in Public Relations, Social Media, and Marketing. Helping small businesses that don’t have an in house marketing person, and don’t have the time to implement day-to-day marketing initiatives is my sweet spot. I am able to dive in, learn the business, and be an extension for the business owner and sales team. I also consult with larger companies that need insight developing new strategies with their marketing and sales teams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are several articles that round up the most stressful jobs you can have. Of course, my passion is always on the list. The fast-paced environment of a public relations, social media, and marketing professionals can sometimes burn you out. But if you don’t have the passion for what you do and the drive to continue getting results for your clients, it might not be the right industry for you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I began Ashley Oakes Scott in 2020 after 14 years in the marketing industry. Through my years, I have met so many business owners that take on the role of marketing. Having conversations with them, it was clear that they wanted to do it all, but not everyone can wear 20 hats. I saw that there was a need for small businesses to have an extension of the expertise without having to hire a full-time marketing person.

I have worked with clients in several industries including Retail, Food & Beverage, Tourism, Non-Profits, Beauty, Service, Healthcare, Casino/Gaming, Real Estate, and Home Improvement. My boutique agency works with small, locally owned businesses and internationally known brands. We specialize in Public Relations, Social Media, Account Strategy, Reputation Management, Brand Management, Creative Direction, Communications Strategy, Website Strategy, Blogging, Email Marketing, and Event Planning.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a successful marketing professional means you never stop. There is always something you can be doing to promote your clients and yourself. I always say that networking is your best friend. You never know who you will meet and down the road, how they will refer your next big client to you.
