Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Macias.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Endlessly figuring it out but the journey has been fun!
I have always been a creative; it’s innate and in my soul! I never went to school for art, but it’s always been the most important thing in my life, expressing myself and developing my craft. I was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and I can’t seem to get away. I love it here, and it’s always been a huge source of inspiration in my life. A lot of my current projects consist of local murals around the Roosevelt Row art district.
Has it been a smooth road?
I try not to fret too much on personal failure as it’s a tool and necessity to myself-growth and overall appreciation for my accomplishments. I definitely have faced many struggles whether it’s dealing with the technique in my work, selling work, having a voice or simply being a gay brown female artist. There’s a huge spectrum of issues along the way, but my main focus is the determination and heart that speaks for itself through my artwork. I stay consistent regardless.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your story as an artist, what else should we know?
I’m a full-time artist, I’m a painter foremost, but creative with a growing range of skill sets in my work. Currently, apart from painting and illustrating, I am hugely focused on murals and public art overall. You can see my current mural inside the new PAZ cantina downtown on Roosevelt and 3rd.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’ll be painting and smiling. The endgame is my art.
