Meet Ashley Lewis of Indulge Sweetery in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lewis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started baking homemade cookies for my family. The cookies didn’t always turn out the way they were supposed to and I wanted to know why. After trial and error, I finally got it right and they were delicious. That day I learned that baking was a science. It definitely was different from cooking where you could add a little of this and that. I then moved into making cakes for a holiday and I enjoyed it. After practice, research, and more practice I felt ready to share my work. Things blossomed from there. Social media has been a great marketing tool.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business from the ground up is always a struggle. I’m learning everyday as a go along. My biggest struggle was pricing. My first year I was basically giving away free cakes. I was underpricing my work because I felt I wasn’t as good as the price I should be charging.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Indulge Sweetery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in custom cakes and sweet treats. I also do dessert jars. I’m proud of my artistic ability and I think that’s what sets me apart.

What’s your outlook for the industry in our city?
I’m not really sure since I do most of my business online. I get customers from all over Arizona. Also, it depends on the product. I would recommend a new entrepreneur research their market and find out what works best for them.
