Meet Ashley Kirby of Ashley Cynthia Photography in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Kirby.

Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My dad is the person who sparked my interest in photography. When I was in elementary school, I would spend summers with my family in Switzerland (I am beyond grateful to my parents! this was an incredible childhood and I defiantly learned so much!) The first summer, my dad sent me over with a small little point and shoot camera. This camera was so incredible to me, it required film so of course when I returned I looked forward to developing the pictures and going through them with my dad. The following summer, I got a hand me down camera! It was a ten years old camera at the time and was more than a point and shoot. It was one of canons first DSLRs, which I still have to this day! With this camera, the lens would be changeable, and the settings were something that I had to learn a little more. This camera was the first one I learned to shoot in manual mode! At this point, I had already surpassed my dad’s knowledge of the digital art!

My fast forward a few years to high school. All of my friends see my work on Facebook and want me to do their senior pictures! Thats kind of where I first realized I might actually be able to do this! Once I graduated, and as every young adult has gone through, I struggled with trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I went to community college and kept switching my major. I went from Biochem to biology, to teaching, and finally reached my final destination of psychology. I only received my associates, I realized that I didn’t want to go to school anymore. I didn’t want to get a degree. That same year, I shot my first wedding. It was a small little back yard wedding back in 2017. And since that first wedding, I have been non stop going! I have fallen in love with other peoples stories and need to help them express their love and make their love everlasting!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It defiantly has not been a smooth road. Weddings are amazing yet sometimes stressful. On top of this, I also work as a CPhT (certified pharmacy tech), so I am constantly working and when I am not working, I am working!

Ashley Cynthia Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer! I specialize in both of those areas but also do engagements, family, and senior pictures! I am definitely most proud and excited for elopements! I love the idea of adventure!

So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
I hope to go full time as a photographer! I want to travel a little more for photography and meet some more amazing people!
