Meet Ashley Bass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Bass.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I have been married for 16 yrs. One of our biggest dreams was to start a family. Unfortunately, it was a difficult road. We had a stillborn and multiple miscarriages. Finally after years of trying we had our preemie Aidan who was born at 26 weeks. He was strong and healthy. Six years later we had our first full term kiddo Alijah. Because our sons were such huge blessings I would also talk about them and tell people our story. Our youngest is quite a character and has never met someone he is not friends with. The more people I told about them the more I wanted to tell so I started posting online about some of our adventures.

I started my blog a day in the Life of Mom after what I like to call the big event. My youngest was potty training and I posted about how he shut down an indoor playground because I was a potty training failure. I had numerous people want to hear the entire story so I put it on a blog I had started but not done too much with. Well, it went far and I had numerous moms thank me for my potty training tips and making them realize that it’s ok to fail just figure out what went wrong and start over. After that post, I started to take my blog seriously. It was not always easy because it involves more time than most people would think a blog takes. One thing I love is that we homeschool so running a parenting blog allows me the time to spend with my children, teach them, and work at the same time. We visit local places and have completed many reviews. I also offer parenting advice from the viewpoint of a boy mom surviving on coffee and chaos. I have been able to grow my blog and have met so many amazing people along the way. One blogger I mini stalked (not for real but its a joke between us lol) and finally got to meet her in person and she has been inspirational and extremely fun. I have learned a lot from her and a few other local bloggers and hope to grow my blog like they did. My blog and brand are growing and I hope to be able to expand into more things as my children get older.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome
It is not always smooth. One of the hardest things for me was learning the ins and outs of blogging. This included learning SEO and all the technology. I still struggle with SEO and technology but I am slowly learning what I need. I also am not great at taking pictures but fortunately my 12 years old is a budding photographer. Another difficulty is time management. We homeschool so I need to be aware of the time I need to educate my children and the time I need to work. I also help my husband run our family business. He is a licensed contractor and together we run Bass performance Construction. I handle all the scheduling, HR, phone calls, advertising, and appointment setting. I am a very busy mom and wife so making sure I can give the time I need to my own business and not lose the quality of what I am trying to express to my readers is vital. On my blog, I say I run on coffee and chaos and some days that is 100% accurate.

Please tell us about your work
My blog A Day In The Life of Mom is a place for advice and information. My family visits family friendly places and I will write reviews and tips for visitors. I also have a place that is for grown up fun like mom’s night out or date night. Included in my reviews are product reviews. What sets my blog apart from some is that it is not specific to just one thing. We do reviews on places and products but I also have sections dedicated to mom life, parenting, and relationship advice. Each day of my blog has a theme. Mom Monday(parenting) Tasty Tuesday (recipes) Wandering Wednesday(places we visit) Teach Me Thursday (how to, this can include crafts, worksheets, etc) and finally frugal Friday (money saving tips). I am by no means the authority on any of these things but if you are a mom looking for a mom’s viewpoint I provide it and I sugarcoat nothing. The thing I am most proud of is when people send me messages about how a post helped them. I have an entire section on pregnancy loss and healing and have gotten messages from people stating how it helped them. Then some moms comment about how real I am when I post and how even when my kid is being a beast and I just chill on the couch surrounded by laundry I say so. I have made friends with some of my readers and I am most proud when they mention something that touched them.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am very honest. When I review something I give mine and my son’s honest opinions. when offering parenting or relationship tips I also include my failures. I think honesty is the key. Also, the fact that by me being honest people can feel safe in knowing that what I am saying is going to be exactly what I think so they can respond accordingly. If you look at my Social Media channels you will see real life photos. They are not staged or edited unless I specifically say this was taken by a photographer. You will see my kids running, sweating, and being ticked off. I try to provide honest transparency.
