Meet Apeksha Agarwal of 838 Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Apeksha Agarwal.

Apeksha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in a small city in India, Meerut. Most of my childhood was spent in Delhi before shifting to boarding school. I finished high school with a major in business management/economics and proceeded to gain my BA Honors in Business Studies from the University of Exeter, UK. I also completed a strategic management course from the London School of Economics whilst enrolled for my bachelor’s degree.

Subsequent to studying abroad for many years, I decided to move back to India to work with my father. After working in the business field, I realized that arts, photography, in particular, was something I always had a passion towards. My true liking towards photography stemmed from the memories of watching my father photograph our family; and friends as I grew up.

In India, I worked with him as an Assistant Manager, Sales for a little over two years and later decided to fly to New York for photography school. In 2017, I completed my 1-year photography certificate from New York Film Academy, NY and moved to Los Angeles for work. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work at 838 Media Group, a collective of great artists run and managed by the renowned photographer, Ash Gupta.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My family and friends have always been supportive of me in any life decisions no matter how different they may be. When I decided to change my profession from business to photography, I received nothing but great feedback and support from everyone.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
838 Media Group, is a collective of talented artists ranging from photographers; videographers to in-house stylists and bloggers. Under one umbrella, we provide photography/video services to the fashion, events industry. We also provide headshots for actors, models and corporate businesses. I am the project director and key photographer at the studio.

My role ranges from testing with models/other subjects to assisting our head photographer, Ash Gupta during editorials and campaign shoots. Additionally, I also facilitate the organization, execution, and delivery of all said shoots. Our unique aesthetic and ability to provide in a collective is what sets us apart. I am able to multi-task and switch between the different shoes I fill in without compromising on my quality of work.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an introvert and very shy. It was only after shifting to a boarding school that I broke out of my shell. I see myself as a fun and loving person who enjoys the company of family and friends more than anything. Tennis and Photography are my major interests, and traveling inspires a lot of who I am.
