Meet Anthony Rivera of Phoenix Pedicab Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Rivera.

Anthony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My road to becoming an entrepreneur started when I suffered the greatest life set back any person can endure. I was serving a 3-year federal prison sentence for a white-collar crime I was convicted of. I was determined to come out the other side of that a different man then when I first went in. So, I used my time wisely and developed several business plans to help put me on a path of successful reintegration into society. My freedom came early, and after serving 22 months I was a man on a mission. In November of 2010 I was released to a halfway house in Tucson AZ where I had been living prior to my incarceration. By July 2011 I had created my LLC, got funding for my Business and launched University Pedicabs. Over the next 3 years I steadily scaled the business by 500%. In 2013 I took over my equipment distributors business and launched Pedal Media Pedicabs our sales division. In 2014 we had reached max market capacity so we moved the entire operation into DT Phoenix.

Penetrating an already established market was a great challenge and experience. My market research identified that we would have to disrupt the market in order for our business model to succeed. We effectively entered the market and quickly became the premier Pedicab service in the area. The existing business quickly realized that they had to make many changes if the wanted to remain competitive. We effectively improved the market for the better of all. We are now approaching our 7 years in business and have remained at the top of our industry. We rebranded the business a year after arriving to this market and became Phoenix Pedicab Service.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the struggles came from changing the status quo that existed and was created by the other already established companies who had originally developed the market.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Phoenix Pedicab Service – what should we know?
Our primary function is to provide short distance transportation and entertainment between destinations and venues. In addition to that we offer unique marketing and advertising opportunities on our equipment and operators.

Pedal Media Pedicabs builds, distributes and sell internationally custom high performance electric assist Pedicabs and Pedicab parts.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that my hard work ethic and sheer determination to change my life were most important to achieving success.
