Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Billings.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I discovered my love for photography with the birth of my first child 6 years ago. I found myself wanting to capture every bit of him from his chunky toes to his long lashes! Motherhood inspired me to freeze each milestone he reached & he soon became my little muse. Sharing images of him led to my friends inquiring about sessions for their loved ones & before I knew it “Annie Bee Photography” was a new & unexpected baby of mine! Photography & motherhood has caused me to see the world in a whole new light & I am humbled by this. I love spending my evenings soaking up every last minute of the golden sunset light while families walk along a desert trail or give group hugs with their little ones in grassy fields.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first career path was elementary school teacher. It wasn’t that long ago that I entered into the profession of teaching only to be faced with obstacle after obstacle that kept me from thriving in the profession. My lowest moment was during budget cuts after my first year of giving it everything I had. It was announced all first and second year teachers were let go…no questions asked. It wasn’t based on the type of teacher you were, the heart and soul you gave it or any reviews from supervisors. Nope just let go. I did find more teaching jobs after that but the next few years in the profession were just as challenging as the first. If it wasn’t for the love I had for those kiddos who I can still name each one of them off the top of my head, I wouldn’t have pushed forward in the profession. Maybe I needed to undergo all that to have a true heart of gratefulness today for photography and the amazing community of photographers I am among. I never expected to be recognized in this profession but I am so happy I found my place! I am constantly evolving as a photographer but I would describe my work as light & airy & that is something I work hard to keep consistent.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Annie Bee Photography – what should we know?
Based out of Phoenix, Arizona, my goal is to create timeless images that capture the true personality of my clients. I specialize in just about everything, except weddings, and am a sunset junkie. I offer Babies First Year packages to ensure that my families treasure each milestone of their little ones from waiting for baby’s arrival to the big celebration with their smash cake. I believe being a mother & former kindergarten teacher sets me apart. I understand child development with my personal experiences & come to every session with my “bag of tricks” to make it a fun, relaxed session & capture real smiles.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I treat every session as if I was capturing my own family.
How would I want my OWN grandparents to be remembered?
What special features of my OWN children will change in time & begs to be documented?
And the biggest question I ask myself:
How do I tell a story of my OWN family during this season of life?
I feel that going into my sessions with this mindset has led me to thrive as a photographer.
