Meet Annecia Williams of Xotic Sutra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annecia Williams.

Annecia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would say it started for me back in about 2006 I really found myself deep into fashion. I LOVED putting outfits together, watching fashion shows, and learning trends, It was exciting to me and it was a thrill to stay on top of trends people didn’t even know were in style at that time.

In 2008 I took a different path in culinary (My first love) and pursued that for about two years. I got servesafe certified and everything. I learned all I could I even looked into a top college but something really was missing in my life. I realized I loved to cook (Still do) but I wasn’t really as interested as I was in Fashion.

So in 2010, I enrolled into AIU (Georgia) taking on a fashion major (Fashion Marketing and Design) and I just KNEW it felt right. I felt good when I woke up for school, doing homework, group projects, etc. I belonged there. That was until I had to take a sewing techniques class (lol) I honestly did not like this class I didn’t have enough patience to sit there and sew garment after garment. I didn’t see it! I continued on my journey through AIU and even made my first skirt but Design was not who I was.

So I took what I learned from the marketing end and my 3-D concept class, etc. and applied that to Fashion Styling. It was then Xotic Sutra was created. (My spouse helped with the name) lol

In this same year I got my first client here in Arizona (I moved by this time), I was fairly new and had not a clue what I was doing but I knew enough to build a great relationship with my client. She trusted me and I was happy the end result was nothing less than amazing! From there I knew I could do this. I never liked to be in the spotlight, I’ve always like to be in the background. I love to see my finish product and I take gratification in that.

Fast forward to 2019 I am an operating business, I am a certified personal stylist, and have been featured in a few local artist music videos as their stylist! I am grateful for my business and I am glad that I am able to share Xotic Sutra with everyone!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not by any means was it smooth. It was bumpy and rough but I made it look smooth! (lol)

My biggest struggle was getting people to believe in the same vision I have. I loved Fashion but it was hard to get people to see fashion through my eyes.

I would be up night after night planning Fashion Shows for them not to fall through due to so many bumps in the road. Or trying to create my dream team for some of them not to fall through. It was discouraging but I had to keep pushing and many nights my spouse would push me to keep going!

My newest struggle would be getting people to see the value in obtaining a Stylist! Most people don’t feel they need a stylist, or want one but don’t know where to start. So that is currently what I am facing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. We’d love to hear more about your work?
My company’s name is Xotic Sutra as I mentioned previously and I am the head Personal Stylist!

I specialize in day to night looks they are super convenient and they make life a little bit more easier. I enjoy putting looks together that are easy to achieve and won’t have you stressed out throughout the day.

I am most proud of would have to be being able to operate my business while still coming across hardships, it’s not easy and some months may be slower than others but I am thankful to be able to see Fashion in a way some may not. There are days were I feel like I want to give up and I get discouraged but I believe in myself, and I have a great support system.

I also started a Beautiful Rebel campaign where I got a group of every day reserved women and showed their “Rebel” side. We had a skater, extremely tattooed women, and a rocker that was sweet as pie! It was a beautiful moment and I can’t not wait to continue that campaign and meet new women along the way!

The thing about Xotic Sutra is I cater to almost everyone and their budgets, I have set package prices, and Ala Carte options, but the goal is to make the client feel as good as possible even if they don’t have a huge budget! So I would say that really sets me aside, and budget does not mean cheap clothing. I find amazing items that are very upscale and affordable. It’s my thing and I take pride in that!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supporter is my wife she has been my everything! I basically made my wife my personal look book. (lol) She is also a photographer so she has been there every step of the way getting footage. She shot my Beautiful Rebel 1 shoot!

My mom also played a big role in my Personal stylist journey she calls me from time to time to utilize my services (of course for her free of charge) lol and I am thankful for that because it helps me be able to cater to a different age group.

My friend Sydnee or Syd Kyd as my wife calls her, who I attended college with was my main girl when I first started Xotic Sutra, Se would spend the night and help me plan shows, and help find venues, etc. She is so amazing and so fashion-forward! She’s what you call a Fashionista!

Oh, how could I forget?! My first ever client, I would say she played the biggest role in all this because she gave me a shot at being a personal stylist!

There are so many people I am thankful for that deserves credit so I will leave it with you most definitely know who you are!
