Meet Anne Wilson of Camelback Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Wilson.

Anne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My husband, Bill, and I formed Camelback Coaching, a triathlon and adventure sport coaching company, in 2004. We started our company after nine years of active duty service in the U. S. Navy as helicopter pilots and four years as Operations Managers at Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon. In the navy and at Intel, we competed in the sport of triathlon, and our colleagues began asking us for help with their training. So my husband started writing training plans and I began teaching swim technique. We finally realized that coaching was what we enjoyed most, so we moved to Phoenix, where I was born and raised, to start Camelback Coaching. We added coaching for adventure sports along the way, which was an organic process, since we enjoy the outdoors and participate in rock climbing, ice climbing, and back country skiing. We are now in our 15th year of full-time coaching!

Has it been a smooth road?
A coaching company for endurance and adventure sports is built on reputation and by referrals. So that takes time. Patience was key, especially in the beginning.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Camelback Coaching – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Camelback Coaching is an endurance sports coaching company that specializes in custom training plans to help athletes reach their goals, wherever their adventures might take them–from triathlons to 100-mile runs to Himalayan peaks, first-timers to elite. Our other specialty, along with custom training plans, is private swim instruction.

We’re known for the one-on-one attention we give our athletes, every training plan designed specifically for them, and the always-open communication channels. Our athletes know that when they send us an email, it will be answered same day. Calls will be returned. Texts responded to. Training plans delivered on time.

On the swim side, I teach swim technique using the Total Immersion teaching methodology. I was a competitive swimmer growing up in Phoenix and swam collegiately at the U. S. Naval Academy. I offer private lessons, both at the pool and in the open-water environment. I teach adults mostly, from those who have never learned to swim or who are fearful of the water or who have had a near drowning experience to those who would like to learn to swim more efficiently to compete in a triathlon or swim for fitness. I also teach better swim technique to competitive high-school-aged swimmers.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I was born and raised in Phoenix and have always loved the open space, the vast sky, the brilliant sunrises and sunsets, and the ability to enjoy outdoor sports all year round. It’s not so much a dislike, but during the summers, we just have to adjust our schedules to accomplish workouts in the dark, usually in the early morning to beat the heat.
