Meet Angela Egley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Egley.

Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started about eight years ago when I found myself as an empty nester, my children were grown and had left home to start their own lives. I work a full-time job as a sales rep for a local liquor distributor, hubby was getting into house remolding and we bought our first flip… I soon learned how to use power tools and was hooked. After working alongside him for a while remolding and flipping houses, I decided I wanted something I could do myself that wasn’t so physically demanding.

I started @AllThingsWoodPhoenix in 2017 and to this day still run that side business… as we all know, summers in Phoenix can be absolutely brutal and my woodworking was outside on my back patio, so I started looking for another hobby I could do that would keep me indoors during those hot summer months which is how @mesoyhappycandleco_ got started. In 2019, I make all-natural soy wax candles, wax melts, novelty candles, party favors, wedding favors, and gift items. I am currently selling in @sunshinesunflowerstudio… we make gift baskets for all occasions that include handcrafted greeting cards and custom-made coffee mugs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely not been smooth by any means, I’ve had to spend months and hundreds of dollars to find the perfect combination of wicks and fragrance oils and soy wax… it’s been a trial and error and lots of waste getting a perfect blend of materials to make the best candle. I love being creative and making gift baskets that are easy to shop for and that are handmade and handcrafted.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My full-time job is a sales rep for Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits. I run a route of 34 accounts from Bell St and 7th Ave all the way out to Fountain Hills. I have one of the top 2 routes in the company, my counterpart and I am always battling against each other to win and be no. 1, we push each other and encourage one another to be the best… I do the woodworking and candle making on the side as a side business. I love woodworking and making stuff and creating personalized memories for people, and I love candle making because of the creativity it involves and the feeling of making something that every household could use and enjoy.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love making candles that represent a feeling or emotional. For example, Birthday candles, Wedding candles, Baby Shower candles, Gender Reveal candles, Graduation candles, Valentine’s Day candles… I also make themed wax melts like doggie paw, cactus, hearts, baby feet, unicorn, easter, flowers, and also tea lights.
