Meet Angela Brown of Hammered Hoof Design in Anthem / North Phoenix Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Brown.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hammered Hoof began while I was working at a therapeutic horse farm. The man who re-shod the horses had tons of old horseshoes left over. I decided to see if I could do anything with them. We had a welder in the family; I began to make different items from the horseshoes. I have always liked to work with wood and enjoyed re-purposing things into something new. This was a good opportunity to see if I could make a living from these skills that I had.

Hammered Hoof Designs became more well known and became more than a hobby. I decided to try and blend working from home and owning my own business. I made some items and offered them on Etsy to begin with. The success with Etsy encouraged me to offer items on Facebook and several other platforms. I have been successful and feel very blessed to be able to do work I love and make a living at it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t believe anyone starting a business from scratch has a smooth road. It is always a learning process; then taking the lessons learned and applying them in the future. I try to learn something new every day. I have had to struggle and learn how to maximize both time and resources as I am on a very tight budget all the time.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hammered Hoof Design – what should we know?
I do a variety of wood and metal art. I specialize in wooden hearts and this is where I first began. I do from very small to very large hearts with a variety of decorations and embellishments. My larger hearts can be used as table tops or coffee table tops. My main focus on anything I do is to give my customer a quality product that will last a long time. I try very hard to listen to my customers wants and give them the best product I can.

I also do metal art from anything horse related. I use horseshoes, tacks, leather, buckles, etc. to make anything from horseshoe Christmas trees to resin hearts with tacks and leather embedded. I also make equine trophy signs with various sayings and places for ribbons and medals. I believe what sets me apart from others is the quality and uniqueness of my work.

What were you like growing up?
I was a total tomboy. I loved everything outdoors from climbing trees, riding motorcycles and riding horses. I am still the same person as I was as a child. I would rather be in work boots and jeans instead of dresses and heels.
