Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Kose.
Hi Angel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there everyone. And Thank you for letting me share my story with you. My name is Angel Köse, and I would love to share how The Massage Essentials, LLC started. I was about to turn 40 years old when I decided it was time for a change. I attended the Therapeutic Massage Program at Phoenix College in my early twenties with my husband, Yalçın. Once we finished the program, we started our family. At this time, we had decided to stay with our then-current jobs for the need for insurance and stable paychecks. Now, this time, I have been a certified nursing assistant for nearly 20 years. Having worked two-plus jobs my entire life, I knew I needed to make a change. So, after nearly 15 years of holding my massage license, I finally decided to put my license to work. To take a chance. To take a chance on me. I started by looking for a second part-time job doing therapeutic massage. This way, I could maintain my night shift position at the hospital. This would also give me some good insight into what the industry was, what I liked and didn’t like about it, and what the clients liked and didn’t like about it. To do some hands-on research for my future endeavors, I decided that this was what I was meant to do after about a year of working for someone else. I would take another chance and start my own business. With nothing more than a pocket full of drive, Grit, and good intentions, I embarked on my journey. At this time, I had asked my friend, Trish, and her business partner, Leda, if I could use an office in their business to get started. They had agreed, and that is where my Sunday-only side hustle began with nothing more than an old table, a few sets of sheets, lotion, and a speaker. The Massage Essentials was born. That day I promised myself I would never work extra shifts at the hospital again. This new venture would provide for our necessities & any extra monies that we didn’t need for our household would be invested right back into the company. And man, has it been a crazy ride. I would continue to build my business over the next 5 years. All while working full-time night shifts at the hospital and eventually building up to a 7-day-a-week practice. I rarely slept. But, I knew if I gave 110%, the universe would return the same. I have never had to take out a loan or use credit. Everything in the studio has been built with sweat equity; I am always visioning the next goal and moving towards it. July 1st, 2021, was a pretty significant day for me. Not only did I turn 45 years old, but this is when my side hustle became my main Hustle. I had finally left the hospital and decided to start completely believing in myself. I finally opened my own single office in January 2020. Little did I know that over the next two years, during the height of a pandemic, we would expand four times and become a team of six. To watch your dreams come to fruition is the best feeling ever. My clients, friends, family, and team inspire me every day. What started as a Sunday-only side hustle has grown into something much bigger.
A Dream comes True. I like to believe this little business is a unique approach to wellness. It starts with us. We deliver quality Therapeutic Massage, holistic services & relaxing facials with a relaxed spirit. It has been said by many who have walked through our doors that as they enter the studio. A sense of calm rushes over them; their worries are left behind at the front door. My team experiences the same calmness in this very space every day. One thing I know for sure is there are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going. Life is a journey, and we’re just getting started. And the best is yet to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a very challenging road on so many levels. But I do love a good challenge. Learning to be a “business person” greatly challenged me. But, little by little, I am learning. I make most decisions with my gut feelings. And I vision what I would like to happen first; then I move towards it. A calculated risk taker, if you will. And then there is work/life balance. The building of a business takes time a lot of time. But, I firmly believe that if we lay a solid foundation, everything else will fall into place, as the saying goes. The house doesn’t fall when the bones are good! At this point, I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything I have done so far has led me to the next best thing. I am even working 100+ hours a week. I would do it all again.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
You should know that this journey has been nothing short of amazing. Each vision or idea I have had thus far has come to fruition. We specialize in Mind, Body & Spirit Unity. We are known for providing our clients and each other with a space where comfort, kindness, and quality are key. We are known for our outstanding customer service, caring nature, and teamwork. We are known for our style, hard work, and dedication. I believe what sets us apart from others is all of the above. We are a team of individuals with the same goals in life. To become successful by doing the things we love most. And brand-wise, I am most proud of how beautifully everything is coming together. Everything from the serene design to creating a smooth workflow for my team and myself. We collectively make up The Massage Essentials Brand. Because the brand isn’t a “thing,” It’s a feeling. You feel it from the moment you walk through the front door. We offer Therapeutic Massage, Reiki & Energy work, and Devine Facials. I believe when the Mind, Body & Spirit Unite, great things happen. And we are just getting started. We have a handful of projects in the works that will roll out soon. So stay tuned.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family, work family, community & simply doing good work matter the most to me. These three things matter to me the most because this is where I can be of the most use. I thrive on helping others. I thrive on letting people be heard and seen. I thrive on knowing that my family is taken care of. I want to see people succeed. I truly believe that when we help each other, we become better. They are absolute Rockstars! And together with my team, we make every day a great day.
