Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Young.
Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born & raised in Queens & Long Island, New York. Joined the Marine Corps from 2006-2011. After getting back from Afghanistan, I decided to move to Scottsdale. I started bartending at Jackrabbit and helped open El Hefe before accepting the General Manager position at HiFi. I spent 5 years there before opening up Casa as the General Manager. I’ve been there for 5 years now.
I am now the longest-tenured General Manager of a Scottsdale nightclub at 10 years strong now. I am a partner with Bottled Blonde, Casa Amigos & HiFi concept. I am proud to say that I come from a place of no handouts and owned and operated the most successful venues in Scottsdale in the past 10 years, since getting out of the Marine Corps.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth ride whatsoever. While in the Marine Corps I was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident that left me hospitalized for over 3 months and has now left me with metal in half my body. I had to recover and get back in good enough shape to finish out my Marine Corps commitment. Thankfully I was able to accomplish that, which was not an easy task. When I accepted the General Manager position at HiFi, the only management experience I had obtained in life was thru my Marine Corps experience. Turns out, managing a nightclub was a little different. I faced many difficulties, but one thing remained true. I was able to produce great revenue and provide a great experience for patrons and staff.
There were just lots of learning curves along the journey. Nothing came easy. Still learning along the way. But I’ve been lucky enough to be such a successful nightclub owner & operated while juggling the job of that and dad. I had my son when I was 23 years old and my daughter lasts then two years later. Being a father and GM has been a unique but rewarding lifestyle challenge. Tristan & Presley gave me the motivation to be the best of myself. There’s nothing more important in life than parenthood and I’m blessed with the two best children in the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to think that I played a role in helping to create the Scottsdale Nightlife scene that everyone is familiar with today. Along with many other great individuals, the club scene is a world better than how the nightlife industry was just 10 years ago. It’s in my opinion, the best nightlife scene in the country.
While we don’t have the large nightclubs with big-name DJs every weekend, we have an entertainment district that has the best-looking girls in the country, the best-looking staff in the country and the best energy in the country, while remaining affordable.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
While Scottsdale continues to grow at a rapid rate, so does our nightlife industry. With many great projections in the process of being built over the next few years, you can expect Scottsdale’s nightlife industry to grow as well.
