Meet Andrea Henson of Fox Lane Creative in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Henson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Central Illinois and earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Illinois State University. I worked as an in-house Graphic Designer at a national brand for 8 years before I began teaching myself modern calligraphy as a creative outlet. I continued practicing and fine-tuning my skills for the next 4 years and fell in love with the art and process. It turns out calligraphy is very therapeutic for me! I would practice by writing my daily to do list in the script to improve my writing muscle memory. In 2017 I decided to combine my design career with my passion for calligraphy and started Fox Lane Creative, a design and calligraphy studio specializing in luxury wedding stationery and paper goods.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every entrepreneur has stumbled along the way, right? I’m no exception! I started Fox Lane Creative in 2017 while living in Illinois. In Fall 2017 I relocated to the four corners area of northern New Mexico and worked to rebuild my business there while also building an online presence. In March 2019 I relocated again to Chandler, Arizona and had to rebuild my business again.

Despite the bumps in the road I’ve learned so much and have met the best people and mentors along the way and that’s priceless to me. I LOVE the Phoenix area and I’m so lucky to have found such a rich community of artists and makers.

Please tell us about your business.
Fox Lane Creative specializes in luxury wedding stationery, custom day-of paper goods and wedding signage. What started as a passion project has grown into a heartfelt business that I’m grateful for every day. I truly get the most joy from listening to clients’ stories and catching the moments that make them light up. That’s the sweet spot! Then I take those moments and create wedding stationery that is a perfect representation of each couple and their story.

Nothing makes me giddier than when a client comes to me asking for all the pretty details! Whether your vision includes vintage postage with silk ribbon and wax seals or combining modern design with traditional letterpress and custom calligraphy, I genuinely love all things paper and get excited for each and every unique piece I’m able to create for my clients.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Founding Fox Lane Creative is definitely my proudest moment! Starting a business is exciting and terrifying and I questioned myself every step of the way. But looking back on the path I took to get here, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every place I’ve worked, every person I’ve learned from, every project I’ve worked on has given me the experience and knowledge that I needed to bring Fox Lane Creative to life.
