Today we’d like to introduce you to Analissia Gonzalez.
Analissia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working on art in my early teenage years. Finding any moment I could to sit down with a pen and paper and doodle anything and everything that would come to mind. As cliche as it is, when it comes to honing a craft, practice makes perfect. Eight years later, I owe my success mostly to all the time I dedicated to improving my styles and really learning what it means to make art that is as much a part of me as I am of it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of people have this misconception that making visual art is easy and carefree, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Building connections with locals and getting booked for shows and galleries is really hard work! It has taken not only a physical toll but a mental toll as well. Late nights trying to perfect pieces that you always end up disliking, rejections from galleries, constant comparisons to more successful artists and this (sometimes) unending feeling that what you’re doing is a waste of time can be a long-running battle. It’s a constant fight trying to remind myself that monetizing off my craft is not proof of accomplishment nor is it an indicator of worth.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a freelance artist. This means I get to work on art full time! I specialize in acrylic painting, embroidery, digital art, ink drawings, jewelry making, zine-making and everything in between. If it’s crafty, I’ve definitely worked with it. I am most known for my digital art as well as my acrylic paintings. I am most proud of the fact that I am making art that is easily accessible to everyone no matter what type of income they have. I base most of my art on a sliding scale because I believe that everyone should have access to it. I believe that my message of inclusivity for all really sets me apart from others.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that empathy, understanding and persistence are what are most important when it comes to success. Refusing to give up when things get tough, going the extra mile and understanding that sometimes things are going to be difficult is always important and keeps me from getting lost in daydreams and keep my feet on the ground.
