Meet Amy Denny of Alpentile in Paradise Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Denny.

Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In the late 90’s, I was working in a tile showroom in Seattle and fell in love with a glass mosaic line made by Oceanside Glasstile – to the extent that I packed up and moved to Southern California to become their product designer. During that time, Luke began installing these materials and the two of us really found that we enjoyed designing and building together as a team. In 2004, we took a year to travel around the world, taking time to reset, reflect on our path and decide what our next venture would be. Upon our return, we moved to Arizona and it was natural that we were influenced by the luxurious outdoor lifestyle in the Valley of the Sun. We are lucky that we enjoy working together as a husband and wife team and our mutual passion for mosaics and meticulous craftsmanship takes us around the country to work together on truly unique, creative and spectacular swimming pools.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We are fortunate that we really love what we do. It’s that passion for the craft and our constant quest to continue to learn and improve, that allows us to see even the rough patches as real learning opportunities. I’d say that our greatest success (and still the most to learn) has been successfully balancing working together with being married. It’s a good thing we’re besties….

Please tell us about Alpentile.
Our business is multifaceted – we are known for our meticulous mosaic installations and our technical knowledge. We draw from our field experience and design background to give our clients the best possible combination of beauty and function in their pool or interior project. It’s wonderful to fall in love with a particular tile and we help our clients discover unique materials and use them in a way that will hold up over time. We also spend a lot of time on each project educating clients, builders, designers, architects. The consultation and training piece of our business allows us the opportunity to share our knowledge in a hands-on way that has had real impact for builders and the trades.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We try to recognize opportunities and analyze them with the scraps of wisdom we’ve picked up along the way. At the end of the day, we both have a really strong work ethic and that has played a pivotal role in our success.
