Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lopez, Brandi Boers.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started out taking classes and eventually teaching at a local donation-based studio about five years ago. When that studio decided to close (the owner was relocating out of the state), the owner offered to gift us everything if we wanted to keep it going. From there, we set out to find our own location to pop up in which.
About three years ago we stumbled into The MonOrchid and after a few conversations with the owner and building admin, Elevate was born. By September of 2016, we had opened the doors teaching two donation-based classes per week. We very quickly gained traction and had to expand to offer MORE classes. By the end of the year, we decided to migrate to a paid studio, bring on a couple of instructors to assist in teaching and set out to have a five years plan to leave corporate America and open our own full-time location.
Nine short months later, we had outgrown the location we were in. We were up to 10 classes per week and made the decision to set out to look for our own location. In June of 2018, we officially moved into our current location and have now grown our full-time community-based studio to over 30 classes per week and expanded into other offerings including restorative yoga, meditation, sound healing, Reiki and so much more!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely been a learning experience! The biggest struggle was migrating from a pop-up studio and moving just a quarter of a mile up the road to a full-time studio. The model we functioned under in the pop-up needed to be drastically changed as a full-time studio.
Elevate Yoga & Wellness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are an aerial yoga studio. All of our offerings incorporate an aerial hammock style silk in some form or fashion, from our floating meditation classes to our aerial yoga classes (ranging from beginner to advanced skill levels). We use the aerial silk as a new prop that will enhance your traditional yoga practice, allowing you to go deeper in your stretching, better align your body, work on your balance, and make inversions accessible! We make yoga fun, accessible, and have created something that people want to be a part of – a true community.
At Elevate Yoga & Wellness, we offer a unique form of your traditional yoga practice on and off the ground, with the support of a soft, hammock-style fabric in our aerial yoga classes. We have a strong commitment to our yogis and yoginis by helping you explore, refine, and advance your traditional asana in an artful form.
Whether you are seasoned in your practice, or just getting started, we are committed to educating students of all skill levels on the benefits of leading a yogic lifestyle. Integrating body, breath, movement, and meditative awareness, we strive to promote an understanding of the interdependency of all these aspects in your personal health and wellbeing.
Our unique approach to your traditional asanas uses the aerial hammock as a prop and will help you deepen, strengthen and lengthen. We help you learn proper alignment and create a sense of awareness in your practice, all with a focus on centering the mind and uplifting the spirit. We are dedicated to helping you learn the basic principles of Yoga and leading an overall healthy lifestyle!
