Meet Amber Lacey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lacey.

Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been creative at heart. I never really thought of myself as someone with talent, but I’ve always been into mastering many different skills. I am drawn to things that allow my creative brain to take off, which is one of the many reasons my heart eventually turned to photography.

I have always had an interest in photography, but this past June, I expressed to my husband that my desire to learn was getting stronger and, I kid you not, within a week he surprised me with my first camera – major hubby points! Shortly after, I saw an ad for photography courses, signed up, and was quickly on my way to starting my photography business. It was a complete game-changer and now I am obsessed with every part of the process. I was originally going to do this as a hobby, but I guess the universe had other plans. I have been studying and talking to other creatives nonstop! I am a very determined individual who, as my husband would say, has only one speed: GO! I feel so humbled and blessed to be where I am in just a few months and I am thankful to everyone who has supported me in getting here.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think seasoned photographers and newcomers, like me, would say it has its ups and downs. There are times when you feel overwhelmed and other times you feel like a total boss. I think that is one of the many attractive aspects of it because it keeps you on your toes. There are always new things to learn and ways to improve and grow in your craft.

In full transparency, I started photography, in part, because I was at a difficult place within myself, anxiety was setting in regularly and for no apparent reason. I eventually realized that part of what I needed was a channel to express myself in a meaningful way. Life gets stressful for us all and we can all use an outlet. Photography has been that for me. I can honestly say I have been pouring my heart and soul into my work and it has helped. I am so grateful for the positive growth it has brought into my life.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in natural light portrait and lifestyle photography. I love serving individuals, couples, and families who want to capture and preserve life’s fun and memorable moments. Something I emphasize is my client experience. I make it as comfortable and fun as possible. When you are in a session with me, I want you to enjoy getting your picture taken. I still freeze when I get in front of the camera, so I get it. That’s why I guide my clients into poses to create beautiful, natural-looking images. I have creative ways to pull out the true to life, candid, moments as well. All of this allows me to deliver a consistent style and images my clients can look back on and admire for many years to come.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I find that my proudest moments are happening after each session. I feel that my education efforts have allowed me to progress rather quickly in a short period of time, with each session getting better results. That makes me proud of my progress and ecstatic that I can provide these high-quality images to my clients.
