Meet Amber Carfield of Kitchens by Good Guys in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Carfield.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My Kitchen and Bath career started in college. I was lucky enough to attend my local university who had a wonderful program endorsed by the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association). In my home town, there were not a lot of Design careers available to new graduates so I started at a family-owned lumber yard in the kitchen department. Looking back on that experience almost 25 years later, I have so much appreciation for the learning opportunity I had there. It was a complete submersion into the kitchen and bath business. I had wonderful mentors there that would help if needed but I was independent and did the best I could on my own.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The work itself is not a struggle but there are always plenty of obstacles to overcome. After all these years of helping people create their dream kitchens and baths, I have found there is a very delicate rhythm to the process. I become friends and family with our clients because we spend a lot of time with them, and I care about what they care about. I try to get as emotionally invested as our clients do about their projects, realizing that many clients will only go through this process once or twice in life. Overall I have been extremely blessed with clients who bring appreciation and joy to the process.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Here at Kitchens by Good Guys, we specialize in kitchen remodels. We provide a turn-key process from design work, space planning, product selection, and all fieldwork. We are a small family-owned and take a hands-on approach to every project. Our two owners have worked very hard to establish a good reputation in the valley. Hence the name “Good Guys”. They have built a team of amazing people to get our clients through every phase of their project. We have a versatile team with many talents and skills. I am the Design Director here at Good Guys, I work on the space planning, budgeting and product selections. One of the most important things to me is to pay it forward and pass my knowledge onto others. From the beginning of my career, I have tried to cultivate design students from local schools to intern with me and many of them often become loyal members of my team. I think it is important to provide mentorship to our young workforce and teach them how to become valuable team members.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Kearney Nebraska, a small agricultural town in the heart of the midwest. I was creative, calm and always happy. My Dad owned and operated an auto body shop where he worked very hard to support our family. My Mom worked retail on her feet into her retirement years. My parents set an amazing example of hard work. They made sure my brother and I could pursue our interests in extracurricular actives because neither one of us really liked school. I showed horses from the age of 9 to 19. I also danced with a local dance studio and enjoyed teaching the young little one in tapp, jazz and ballet. I was always interested in art and that is what ultimately drew me into interior design.
