Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaris & Adrian.
Hi Amaris & Adrian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
About four years ago we decided to take a road trip covering most of the western United States. After visiting Yosemite earlier that year we were inspired to visit other national parks and explore the outdoors. To capture this all we decided to buy a camera and found a deal on a used Sony a6300 after researching what would be a good camera to start with.
From Sacramento, California we drove along the coast up through to Vancouver and across Canada to visit Banff National Park and specifically get to see Moraine Lake. We instantly fell in love with the scenery there and it made us want to see more of what the world has to offer.
From there we ventured down through Montana, Wyoming, and Utah until we came back home. From that point on we knew we wanted to dedicate more of our time to seeing and documenting more of the world and we haven’t stopped since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For us, it has been hard to balance work and school as we both have had times in which we were working and going to school full time so our schedules would be hectic. Because of this, the only time we had free might usually be weekends but that sometimes was taken up by homework as well so we had to be creative with how to work around it.
Furthermore, we’ve gone into this kind of blindly as it was something very new to both of us to travel to these unfamiliar places and we weren’t familiar with photography and videography but it’s been fun learning together.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For the most part, we primarily do landscape and travel photography but have been trying to branch out more into portrait photography as well. We enjoy trying to find new angles and perspectives of familiar places and give our take on the experience.
With most of our travels, we also like to include information that we researched before or during that can help the next person who wants to try visiting that place. I also believe that our perspective and backstory as both first-generation Americans and first-generation college students influence our decision-making and give us a huge level of appreciation that we are fortunate to be able to travel the world.
What matters most to you?
For both of us, we want to ensure that the sacrifices made for us to have these opportunities aren’t in vain. As children of immigrants, we are constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to live the life we do and have these opportunities that others before us might not have had.
We carry an immense level of pride when it comes to that and at the end of the day, we want to make sure we live a life in which we take advantage of all the opportunities we have available to us and appreciate everything we have.
