Meet Amanda Thompson of Delightfully Vixen in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Thompson.

Amanda is a professional bra fitter and educator for women in the intimate apparel and sexual health and wellness industry. She has lived in many different states (with Oklahoma being the longest residence) but has now been in sunny AZ for almost 8 years now.

Delightfully Vixen was born from the desire to fill a void in the intimate apparel industry. After walking into a local novelty and lingerie store with a 50% off coupon, she ended up turning around and walking out empty handed. So, it spurred a conversation between her and her husband about how the industry could be more inviting and welcoming to women in general. Wouldn’t it be great to see a place that had many sized bras to fit the “not so average sizes”, quality lingerie for all types of women, and a place that women would feel comfortable with exploring her own sexuality without the worry of what others might think and/or say?

At least, she thought it would be the perfect environment. So, she set out to provide that very thing. And now, she has a set up where she carries bras sized 28A-40K, lingerie (small-4X) in styles to suit many personalities from Delightfully Sweet to Resident Vixen, and provides sexual health and wellness items that are directed towards a woman gaining more self-knowledge and pleasure through her relationships.

So, Amanda has a physical location that is commonly referred to as “Your Local Lingerie Speakeasy” because she wants to provide exclusivity and privacy to the women she works with.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t exactly been completely smooth going. Though, it hasn’t been all that hard either.

Just because Amanda knows that 85% of women are wearing the wrong sized bra, most women don’t know they are in that 85% so they don’t think getting a professional bra fitting is that important. So essentially, getting women to even know they need a bra fitting can be a struggle.

The second challenge she has faced is the location. Delightfully Vixen is further north that many women want to drive. Though, there are ladies who drive all the way in from Litchfield, Chandler, and Tempe. Once women see what there is to offer in such a welcoming environment, they typically turn into life-long customers because what Amanda offers is unique and different. She genuinely cares about her customers and won’t send them away in something that doesn’t fit. So, she may not be in the most convenient location in the valley, but she offers a top notch in service not found anywhere else.

Another struggle, and much harder to admit, is that Amanda can be her own worst enemy at times. She sometimes procrastinates and struggles with her own self-confidence at times. She has a past that likes to sometimes haunt her and so it can get a little difficult when she gets down on herself. But, she pushes through and keeps on going. She loves what she does and she loves working with other women trying to be the best they can be as well.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Delightfully Vixen LLC – what should we know?
Amanda specializes in bra fitting. She knows what to look for in a bra that should fit and extends her services by also educating the women she works with so that they know how a bra should fit as well. Delightfully Vixen is here to offer education. Not just put bras on women!

She also conducts a few training seminars throughout the year on different aspects of sexuality for women in topics of sexual health, relationships, and communication. Again, education is of the most importance to Amanda so she tries to find all sorts of ways to help women grow.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Amanda’s biggest supporter is David DeJesus! He has been there to encourage her when she is uncertain, to push her when she is scared to make a move, and to calm her when she is completely overwhelmed.

She can also give a lot of credit to her kids. They have not only made the sacrifices when she has to pull away for appointments, networking, meetings, etc., but they have also been her biggest cheerleaders and a constant source of encouragement along the way.

And last, a huge thank you goes out to David’s parents. They are the ones who believed in our dream enough to loan us a little bit of start-up money. Enough to place a few orders with different companies and start trying our hand with it.
