Meet Amanda & Kyle Paige

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda & Kyle Paige.

Hi Amanda & Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2017 I was dealing with pretty intense postpartum depression after having our third son. It was a very lonely time, and I stumbled across YouTube & the community of moms. It was amazing to feel inspired to get back to taking care of our home for our family & it ended up helping to pull me out of my postpartum depression. After coming out of PPD, I always would mention to Kyle how I’d love to start a YouTube channel, but like lots of things in life, it just didn’t happen… until one day, he surprised me with a $10 tripod from Walmart, a cheap lapel microphone, and said, “Now you have everything you need, let’s go to the grocery store & you can film a grocery haul!” So, we got in the car, went to our local grocery store, and started filming clips on my iPhone as we shopped. Then we came home & I shared the food we bought, along with our weekly meal plan. We then spent the next few days learning how to edit & Kyle set up a YouTube channel… and we uploaded the first video ever to This Crazy Life. In the beginning, I remember thinking how incredible it would be if the channel ever got 100 subscribers, but it soon took off & surpassed that number surprising us both! YouTube has been such a blessing to us & has become something we never even dreamed of. It’s neat that what started out as a hobby, ended up having one of the biggest impacts on our lives. Fast forward to today, we have been on YouTube for 4 years, moved twice, the channel has grown to over 360K subscribers, and now Kyle & I are so grateful to be able to do YouTube full time together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
YouTube is always bumpy, but it’s worth the ride! One thing we had no idea about before starting This Crazy Life, is how much time it takes to do all the filming, editing, uploading, thumbnails, etc. There have been countless nights of being awake until 4-5 am so a video can go up on time. There’s also the negative comments we receive sometimes, that can be tough to navigate. Of course, there are other stresses that come from YouTube… but in the end, the community of amazing people & being able to support our family together, doing something we love makes any of the downsides all worth it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We have the YouTube channel This Crazy Life. On that channel, we mostly focus on homemaking, cleaning & room makeovers. I love to share tips on how to clean, hacks to make homemaking simpler, cleaning motivation, and we also share ideas on how to decorate spaces to make them functional & beautiful. We also have a vlog channel, Kyle & Amanda, where we share more behind the scenes and a more intimate look into our lives. One of the things we are most passionate about is transforming spaces in our homes along with friends & family (hoping to expand that to our viewers in the future). We love being able to find interesting ways to organize a room, add function to spaces that was lacking, and decorate it in a way that’s inviting & represents whoever we are doing the room makeover for! One thing that sets us apart, is the #RealLifeMoments we share. We aren’t afraid to show mess or the imperfections in our life. Social media can be a tricky place to hang out sometimes when you’re always seeing everyone’s highlight reel… so we do our best to inspire others, but also share those moments so you know you’re not alone. Life is messy, but we’re all in it together & we’re all more alike than we realize!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
The community of YouTubers in the niche have been such a blessing. We’ve found lifelong friends, and since YouTube is so unique, with its own challenges, it’s been amazing to have friends who understand it & can be there for you. Also, the viewers/subscribers are a huge motivator for us. I can’t say how many letters or emails or even social media messages I’ve gotten saying how these videos have helped pull them out of depression, or given them inspiration to do the things they used to do. It’s humbling to be on the other side of that, in helping people, because just 4 years ago, I was the viewer being helped by these videos. Of course, we have been very blessed by always having the support of our families since day 1. And knowing that through everything, Kyle & I are in this together really makes all the difference as well.
