Meet Alyssa Wagner-Doetsch of Alyssa Reine Photography in Mesa-Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Wagner-Doetsch.

Alyssa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been in love with photography as an art form since high school, but I don’t think I truly appreciated how powerful it really is until my kids were born and I started documenting all of their precious moments. That was when my focus started to shift and I realized the impact that photography has on all of us throughout our entire lives. The first time a family friend asked me to take extended family photos for his grandpa’s 90th birthday, I knew I was hooked. It’s an amazing feeling getting to connect with people and document a part of their lives. I always feel like I have new friends by the end of every photo shoot.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been bad days and good days, as with everything else in life. There are days when I wonder what I am doing when I want to give up. But I made the decision a while back that quitting is not an option, and I know that nothing worthwhile is ever easy, so I just keep on keeping on.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Alyssa Reine Photography story. Tell us more about it.
I consider myself a storyteller. I can’t even put into words what a privilege it is to be able to document people’s love stories- the love between two newlyweds, between parents and their children, between great-grandparents and their children and grandchildren… each story is unique and beautiful, and it brings me so much joy to be able to share that with others through photography.

Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the quiet kid in school. I loved classic literature novels, creative writing, and animals, but I was awkward and unsure of myself. I’m still awkward and nerdy, but I think photography has given me more confidence to get out and talk to people that I would’ve been too scared to before.
