Meet Alyssa Bird of Regenerous Designs in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Bird.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been creating things ever since I was a child. The school was always a challenge, but art was where I thrived. As I got older, I followed my passion for fashion to Los Angeles, CA for my degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Throughout my career in the apparel industry, I noticed one concerning aspect: waste. Where others saw scraps that couldn’t be used, I saw an opportunity to make a positive impact and Regenerous Designs began.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d be very surprised to hear an entrepreneur say, it’s been a smooth road. Being a business owner is absolutely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. If I wasn’t so darn stubborn and determined, I for sure would’ve quit a LONG time ago. Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart especially when you’re going at it solo. It’s a constant battle of the mind questioning your talents, worth, and skills while trying to stay positive and hopeful that all this hard work will pay off. I’ve had several failed attempts at product designs, but thankfully, I have SO MANY ideas that I just move on to the next one. The hardest thing has been to learn my strengths and to humble myself enough to ask for help in the many areas I’ve felt clueless. Having my own business wasn’t something I ever really thought I’d do. I kind of stumbled into it sooner than I would’ve liked because things don’t always go according to plan. I had to seize the opportunity and give it a shot. You never know unless you try and I’m not one to quit until I try all the options. So that’s what I’m doing… Trying to do my best every day.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Regenerous Designs are fashion excess to style success, redefining the way waste is managed in the fashion industry. Specializing in unique wearable art accessories, each piece is created by up-cycling apparel production fabric remnants. Unlike anything else out there, these designs give the fabric a new life while bringing joy and a sense of individuality to each person’s unique style that wears it. These bold statement pieces are sure to get many compliments and strike the question, “Why to dress like everyone else when you were meant to stand out?” Working with excess fabric means the material options are whatever is available. This doesn’t always make the designing easy but it does continually challenging my creativity and pushes me to create things I otherwise may not have.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely!! The Phoenix area has so many resources for entrepreneurs especially those that are makers. Starting with craft shows allowed me to connect with my market directly while also building relationships with other small business owners. Having a community that supports one another is HUGE to encourage all of our success. We grow faster by helping each other.
