Meet Alyssa Belanger of The Event Genies in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Belanger.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At a young age, I used to comment to my mother about how boring every event we went to was. She taught me that if I didn’t care for how something was being executed, to get into a position to change it. That advice has carried me into my adulthood and created a deep passion for planning. I have spent the last 20 years involved in this amazingly fun industry. I have coordinated and planned hundreds of events. I started my career as an intern with the Arizona beer festival and continued to plan trade shows, sales meetings, team building activities, holiday parties, and corporate events.

I enjoy the opportunity to work with many different people and companies. My vision has always been to create an event that is uniquely yours. There is nothing more gratifying than helping my clients surpass their vision of the perfect event. Our goal is to help establish and develop your vision while creating a meaningful and memorable event.

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe when starting any business there are always obstacles and challenges. I have always known that I wanted to start my own business but the timing never seemed right. In 2006 I started a Jewish singles networking group in Scottsdale called Tribe. My slogan was “For Heebs Who Wanna Hang” ages 21-40. I would throw different parties and events once a month with anywhere from 50-500 people. As time went on I eventually settled down, ended Tribe and got married. Soon after I married and had my first child I lost my mother to cancer. I had known for some time that my mother’s battle would come to end and had spent the last three and a half years spending time with her. Only six months later my aunt Gayle unexpectedly passed. Gayle was my absolute best friend and my creative partner in crime. With the loss of the two most influential women in my life, I was in no place to start my business.

Years later after having my son and balancing working full time, being a wife and mother of two, I decided now was the time to finally do it! I can honestly say the biggest challenge has been the absence of both my mother and Gayle. Gayle would have loved brainstorming names for my business. My mother would have had thousands of suggestions on how to market myself and which friends of hers to contact. I doubt most people’s roads to business have been smooth. There will never be the right time. enough money, or the perfect circumstance to start a business. If you have enough passion and ambition you simply take a leap of faith and put your best foot forward.

I think Scottsdale is the perfect place to be an event planner. Scottsdale is a hub for all kinds of events and brings in people from all over the world. We are known to have amazing weather which is an easy attraction for out of towners. Scottsdale hosts a multitude of festivals, golfing tournaments, craft fairs and so many others. There are endless options for venues from hotels, restaurants, gardens, airport hangers and outdoor facilities.
