Meet Allison White of Allison-Rose-Model in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison White.

Allison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a kid, I always enjoyed flipping through magazines and admired the models and actresses on TV. What started out as a childish dream started to become reality when I went to modeling school when I was 12 years old. I loved all the fashionable clothes and the art that came with expressing yourself in front of the camera. So, I studied the poses, practiced in the mirror, everything you would expect from a young teenage girl. I always had a camera around, everyone would share it as we took photos of family and friends, and of course, I’d always be posing. As I became more interested in photography, I studied its art and learned how to compose my own images, which helped me better understand my photographer’s vantage point when working a photo shoot.

Around 2012, my sister and I booked a photo shoot with a photographer for the first time. She had already been modeling for quite a while and I looked up to her. I wanted to be more like her, the beauty and grace she displayed in her photos was inspiring to me. After that shoot, the photographer wanted to work with me again, and then a few others did too. Living in the D.C. area made finding other professionals a bit easier. The more my images were circulated through different photography/modeling groups on Facebook, the more connections I made in the industry. Soon, I had more skilled photographers working with me and I ended up being published in 30+ magazines and almost 20 book covers. I had met designers, stylists, makeup and hair artists, and had a new array of photographers to work with. I’m constantly moving forward and always striving for the next step. Recently, I was honored to walk in New York Fashion Week for Sheri Autry Couture. Her incredible couture gowns stole the show as we showcased her dresses on the catwalk.

Has it been a smooth road?
Modeling comes with its own set of challenges, but I face even more. I am diagnosed with a rare, genetic, connective tissue disorder called Ehler’s-Danlos Syndrome type 3 – Hypermobile. Basically, EDS means my connective tissue isn’t strong enough to support my body and everything in it; and hypermobile means I’m a bit bendier than others. People mistake hypermobile with flexible. Flexibility is in the muscles, hypermobility is in the joints. I can hyperextend most of my joints and suffer from chronic pain because of it. There are many different forms of EDS, but all of them affect the skin, blood vessels, and joints. Along with EDS comes a long list of comorbidities that often like to “hitch a ride”. Some examples would be autonomic dysfunction, gastroparesis, and MCAS to be brief.

It’s very easy for me to bend my arms backwards, my knees backwards and sideways, and my neck stretches in all directions; because of this, I have to be pinpoint focused on my posing to make sure I’m moving in flattering ways, while also focusing on the expression on my face regardless of my pain level. As a model, it’s my job to be a blank canvas, ready to create the designer’s or photographer’s artistic vision at any time.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Allison-Rose-Model – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a professional freelance model. I’ve worked in glamour, boudoir, avant-garde, fashion, and commercial. As a model, I’m known for being punctual, professional, and always going the extra mile to get that perfect shot. I am able to pose with limited direction and convey emotion through my expressions.

What sets me aside is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It gives me a new set of challenges to face, but even more importantly, it allows me to reach a platform for others like me that go unheard. I will always be a supporter, believer, and promoter for raising awareness about invisible illnesses. I am showing people that just because you have an invisible illness, that doesn’t mean you can’t live out your dreams! This year, I walked in New York Fashion Week, EDS walked in New York Fashion Week. I will never stop pushing the boundaries and raising the bar. The sky is the limit, and even then there are the stars. Let’s be stars!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m new to the valley, but so far the weather and landscapes have captured my heart. I’m looking forward to meeting more people from the valley in the fashion industry and creating some artwork in the desert. I have one vision, in particular, I’m hoping to create soon.

Every night, my family goes for a sunset walk together. I suppose I like that the best.
