Meet Alison Altrui of Christella Photography in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Altrui.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing photography with an old Canon camera I got off eBay for $120. I went to bed early and set an alarm for early in the morning because I had to be the highest bidder for this camera. I got the camera with 2 seconds left before I lost! I was so excited! I took that camera everywhere until she eventually died and had too little of a shutter count to function, but she lasted a lot of years! I took pictures of everything I possibly could. Then, one Christmas years later, I asked my husband for a camera… and here I am today! I knew what camera I was getting for Christmas beforehand so for two months I researched and studied how to use all the buttons, posing for clients, locations, editing, business models and anything else that would be relevant. Now, I still photograph everything and everyone, but I’ve created my dream job with it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. There are so many photographers out there! It was a struggle to get myself known and it was hard getting no response or “no’” but I knew I had to just keep trying. It was also challenging to find my style since I like all styles.

Please tell us about Christella Photography.
I specialize in maternity, couples & family sessions. But I do all kinds of photography. I recently had a maternity session and a cake smash session published in two separate magazines, which is what I’m most proud of. I’m also proud of how far I’ve come and that I did my research, not just picked up a camera. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for everything. I love being able to freeze the love someone shows for expecting a child, for their family, for their spouse/fiancé/boyfriend/girlfriend or even for their fur babies or a cake!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are endless. I want to continue building my image, my portfolio, and my skills. I want to continue improving every single day. I’m currently in Phoenix, AZ but one big change will be coming this summer: I am relocating to Cleveland, Ohio with my family! We are elated and although I will have to start over a little, I can’t wait to see what Ohio has in store for us.
