Meet Alicia Porter of Permanent Beauty by Lish in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Porter.

Alicia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey into the permanent makeup world happened so naturally I can only attribute it to fate. Upon graduating from Arizona State University with my degree in Business, I was lost like many other young adults find themselves in their early 20’s. I knew I had a keen sense for Business, however I struggled with exactly where this would lead me. I settled for an entry level sales position because that’s what it seemed like I was “supposed’ to be doing. Ironically enough, my job was to sell Beauty and Fitness entrepreneurs business organizing software. Monday through Friday, eight to five, I spoke with countless entrepreneurs who followed their passions and refused to settle for working under someone else’s dream. One day under our list of prospects for the day, my cousin’s name popped up. She had just moved back to Arizona part-time to open her second business since her Permanent Makeup Business and School was flourishing in Chicago. Well thank god she decided to expand when she did because almost immediately something clicked. I got a hold of Erin Golightly (my beautiful cousin who is not only extremely talented but Business Savvy as well) and told her I was going to fly out and take her next Microblading Class. After this day, my entire life changed. I quit my desk job, flew to Chicago and got certified in Microblading, and began my career as a Permanent Makeup Artist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Beginning any type of Business is not easy. Without love for the craft, many people may be tempted to quit. Having the privilege to help people look and feel their best is what kept me going. My amazing mentor, Erin Golightly, has also encouraged me every step of the way (even through slow season) to never give up.

Please tell us about Permanent Beauty by Lish.
I specialize in eyebrow permanent makeup. Whether it be microblading, ombre brows, powder brows, you name it, I personalize the service based on your wants, and realistic expectations depending on lifestyle, skin type, etc. I am most proud of the root of my business, The Advanced Cosmetic Academy. Without such incredible training, I would have never been able to get to where I am today. Unfortunately with how popular microblading has become recently, many unaccredited and uncertified “schools” have popped up everywhere. I am proud to say I was certified with a school that is certified by the Board of higher education, Licensed by the department of health, and approved by the SPCP for 100 credit hours. So many artists try to take the shortcut, which is what sets me and my co-workers apart from the rest. If you want to be the best, you don’t take shortcuts!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not starting sooner!
