Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexxis Carpentier and Sean Pepers.
Alexxis and Sean, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We have eaten a plant-based diet together for years, and are gluten-free as well due to Alexxis’s gluten allergy. We both have experience in the vegan food industry and have always enjoyed cooking and baking together. We were working on a coffee business concept and were brainstorming a baked good to go with our coffee, and eventually landed on the idea of doughnuts.
We started experimenting with recipes, in search of the perfect gluten-free, vegan doughnut. Over time the idea evolved. We realized that under Arizona’s Cottage Food Law, we could just start a doughnut company with a very low start-up cost and could be operating relatively quickly. We were excited to start our own business and be able to work together. Within two months we were ready to operate. Our website went live on November 7th, and we attended our first market at the Red Mountain Farmers Market on November 17th.
Has it been a smooth road?
Its been relatively smooth. Just like with any food business, there are challenges. But we agree that our prior food industry experience, particularly working for small businesses, had already granted us much needed perspective. The biggest challenge has been letting go of fear. Being afraid to just allow the universe to do its thing and move you where you need to be. The doughnuts have been received so well by the local community, and we are so grateful. It instantly started taking on a life of its own and we’ve just had to learn to go with the flow.

All of our doughnuts are baked, gluten-free, and vegan. (As well as soy, peanut, and almond free!) They come in a variety of unique flavors, some of which you have definitely never had in a doughnut before. We use the best ingredients we can and our flavor inspiration comes from nature. Utilizing botanicals and herbs in our recipes is what gives our doughnuts a touch of synergy.
We believe that you can still create amazing food that is free from animal products and common allergens, and the doughnuts are our expression of that. We bake up large doughnuts as well as mini doughnuts, which are our most popular items at the markets. We’re proud of our recipes. Neither one of us had ever formulated our own baked good recipe before, and countless test batches went into creating these final flavors. We’re also proud of our dedication to working through any and every situation that gets thrown at us.
