Alexandr, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I bought this business 4 years ago. I knew nothing about laundromat business but I liked store and location. I have never owned a business before but after in-depth analysis and market research, I decided to try it. I used to work as a business development manager in IT industry, it helps me a lot.

I made a few renovations in the store, developed marketing strategy and in 2 years I almost doubled my customer base.

My laundromat is not big or a fancy place, I cannot boast of new equipment but it’s always clean and there is an attendant on duty at all times. We are always ready to assist, help with equipment’s or answer any questions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was very difficult in the beginning and it’s still not easy now. I lost thousands of dollars due to water leakages, broken washers, coolers or drainage issues. I have made a lot of mistakes but I worked hard and learnt a lot.

In small business every single mistake affects you a lot. Sometimes I just want to give up and do something else but it passes fast.

All you need is to bring passion in what you do.

Supermat 22 is coin-operated laundromat. No prepaid card, just simple old fashioned way of doing laundry. It’s a clean, safe place with lowest prices in the neighborhood. We also offer additional services for our customers such as alterations, dry cleaning and wash and fold.

People like to come to us because we care. Its small business and we simply cannot afford losing any single customer.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I do not plan anything big. Of course laundry technology has improved dramatically. Energy-efficient, low-water washers, faster dryers. But business is the same. It’s a place where you can wash and dry your clothes inexpensively and quickly, saving you time and money.

Replace some machines with new one, maybe add new services like delivery or 24/7.
