Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Frekey.
Hi Alexander, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Before moving to Arizona in 2016 my mother-in-law and I spoke about opening up a business, neither of us knew how to but knew that we wanted to do something. Now the industry I worked in and was extremely passionate about was the Sports Nutrition/Supplement Industry. I had connections to great brands as well as understood the market very very well. Also, my degree is in Biochemistry and that yielded me the knowledge and credibility to be a Go-To source for everything health and fitness related. So we decided to open up a store in Mesa in 2016 called Performance Supplements. fast forward to 2020 when COVID hit and retail stores were going out left and right. So I contacted a good friend that happened to be a web designer and paid him to build PerformanceSupp.com which currently is now in a small warehouse space in Tempe with the retail store still in Mesa.
Back in 2020, we knew we had to pivot to keep business going and make a huge push for the e-commerce market or Performance Supplements would have crumbled. I did just that! All of my efforts went into growing PerformanceSupp.com BUT more importantly now Performance Supps the Brand of Supplements I created personally to be sold on the website. After the creation of the website I finally pulled the trigger and formulated my own line of products and had them manufactured. They were an instant success and everyone that tried them LOVED them and became brand fans immediately due to my quality and specific formulations of mine. Now I sit going into 2023 with a whole new business plan for PerformanceSupp.com and the expansion of flavors for the brand along with a strategic marketing plan for exponential growth this coming year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been FAR from smooth! The area in Mesa where the retail store is is and has been dying for some time. The store was located near a gym and it changed twice and then folded in 2020 as many did. So the store sits in an empty complex with little to no traffic.
So PerformaneSupp.com and the brand were separated and moved to a warehouse in Tempe where I live and have lived for 3 years in order for me to focus on them and the retail store is left in the hands of my partner in Performance Supplements (LLC).
As you know, we’re big fans of PerformanceSupp.com. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
PerformanceSupp.com and the brand were created due to a lack of quality I was seeing across a lot of the Sports Supplement industry. I created products that I wanted and was passionate about but also that actually had efficacy.
All of the ingredients I use are of the highest quality with actual real dosages, unlike many other brands you can find.
What do I specialize in…Having a degree in biochemistry I understand how these ingredients work and work in the body very very well. The biggest differentiator that sets the brand apart from others is my 100% transparency with everyone on all social media channels. I am open about what I am doing, how I’m doing it, what’s next, etc. Having this dialog with consumers brings a different feel and openness to the company that I am building. Other offerings and services I have on PerformanceSupp.com are Nutrition/Fitness consulting where I coach people in helping them get in better shape, change life habits, or compete in a physique competition, etc. Not many other brands offer that type of service let alone work directly with the CEO 1 on 1.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My view on risk-taking is simple. It takes money to make money.
Going all in with what you have is scary but it also makes you chase your dream of success that much harder and stay that much more focused. I have a 1-year-old son and my wife and I know the importance of not failing because we have to succeed for him and his future. My favorite quote: “Inspired by the Threat of Failure”.
