Meet Alexa Dearing of Kinetic Closet in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Dearing.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started the company in June of 2019 as a small online Etsy shop selling handmade scrunchies and hair clips- I have been in business not even a full year and have already grown immensely through social media connections, farmers markets, and local festivals- I have grown my business into the company that I have always dreamed of. I now have moved over from Etsy to a website of my very own. I am still a one woman show, making everything, and shipping everything by hand- but now on a much larger scale. My company transformed from a small hobby- to a full-time job in less than a year- which I am eternally grateful for. My short term five year goal is to be able to have my items sold in small local shops all around the state, as well as have my items sold on larger brand websites as well. My long term goal is to eventually have my own storefront either in Tempe on mill ave, or in downtown phoenix- so that I am able to host events during first Friday- and tie into the local art scene as well.

As of right now the types of products I offer on my website vary- but they are all funky, retro, and festival themed items such as fun earrings, hats, t-shirts, and much more. As my company grows larger in following and patrons- so does the amount, and variety of items that I have to offer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part it has been smooth sailing for my company- the hardest part is the creative aspect- and then transforming the ideas I have in my head into a physical product that I can share will all of my customers. I am lucky- being that I have years of experience in photography- I am able to take all of my own product shots, and create a real vision for how I want my items displayed- which really helps the items sell better.

Please tell us about the company.
Kinetic Closet is a local small “festival fashion brand creating styles for every unique raver” – this is our slogan. I hand make earrings, t-shirts, outfits, hats, and accessories of all kinds to really make guys and gals feel absolutely beautiful and unique when they attend festivals. My focus it to create unique items that really are the finishing touch to any outfit. Although our target audience is the EDM community- our products are age appropriate for anyone looking for some funky, unique accessories. One of our best-selling items are our custom faux leather earrings- the custom option gives the customer the ability to have any shape, color, and texture their heart desires- this is a huge hit with the customers since they can have whatever their heart desires.

One thing that sets us apart from others is our “Electric Exposé” Blog that we have on our website. This blog is a place to feature our customers art, local events happening within the EDM community, current festival fashion news, and so much more. This blog is open for anyone to write for- and those who write for the blog receive store credit upon approval of blog post. This is a unique factor- as most blogs that are within the EDM community are written by a team, or the same few people- where this blog is open to the public to write about anything, they want to that relates to the community.

What I’m most proud of 2iwth my company is how quickly I’ve been able to grow my company – being that I do all of the marketing, networking, shipping, and make all of the products myself I have really poured my heart and soul into my company.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Big plans for the future is my previously stated five year and long term goals to grow- another big plan I have for the future is to be able to make enough products to be able to have a booth at EDC one year- as well as take on staff as well for events large like that.
