Meet Alex Campos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Campos.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my cosmetology license in 2018 and immediately knew that I wanted my focus to be on wedding hair. I shadowed a fellow bridal stylist, and was able to see what it was like to be a part of someone’s wedding day! I instantly fell in love with it. Shortly after shadowing, I joined a bridal team and was able to gain experience. This also allowed me to build my Instagram portfolio so that I could start getting clients of my own! Eventually, the inquiries started and didn’t stop. I was consistently booking my own brides and knew it was time to brand out my business in a way that I hadn’t done before. After building a website I started the process of building a small team, and am continuing to work on all of those things today!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had multiple challenges along the way! Right now, my biggest challenge is being a single mom to my 2-year-old daughter whilst trying to run a brand-new business. I wear a lot of hats on a day-to-day basis and it can definitely be challenging!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a bridal hairstylist, and I own Alexandria Grace Bridal. I currently have a small team of hair/makeup artists that are all super passionate about what they do. I specialize in a whimsical and romantic style but am also known for my boho styles as well. I spend a lot of time with my brides discussing what hairstyle elements, accessories, and styles would best match them based on their dress, bone structure, and overall aesthetic. I feel like the amount of information I offer to my brides is definitely something that sets me a part of others. It’s typically very in-depth!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would recommend to take continuing education classes if you’re able to and practice on human heads as much as possible. The faster you hone in on your skills, the quicker you’ll be able to book quality clients. Taking lots of pictures for your portfolio will also help you get work, and using the appropriate hashtags on Instagram can also make a huge difference in the number of inquiries you get. Social media is your best friend, and I wish I put more effort into mine when I first started.
