Meet Alana Christine Fulton of Alana Christine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Christine Fulton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Florida where I graduated from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2005. I was a nail technician specializing in custom artwork. I loved it but it wasn’t fulfilling enough for me. I moved to Arizona in 2006 with my husband and our 3 kids to pursue real estate. Shortly after, decided to focus on taking care of my kids full time.

I’m naturally an introvert, so growing up I always enjoyed being in my room for hours making things like jewelry or my own magazines, however, I didn’t start painting seriously until about 3 years ago when I turned 35. Now that my kids are all teenagers I have had more time to figure out my identity as an individual outside of being a wife and mother. So this is me finding my own voice, finding my own legs to stand on and not just hiding alone in my room keeping my creations to myself.

It’s uncomfortable to put yourself out there when you’re naturally shy but I have a strong foundation of support with my husband and children and now my fans are a huge motivation factor for me. They keep me uplifted and encouraged. My goal now is to use my art as a vehicle to inspire others to start whatever their dreams are no matter your age. I think everyone has something to say and it’s important for us all to find our voice, even if its a whisper… it still matters equally as the loudest.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle is balancing my personality. I’m very structured, detail oriented and extremely motivated and determined. However, when you are that critical of yourself sometimes it stagnates you from growing because you can get locked into comparing yourself with others or you can set such high standards for yourself that when they don’t happen in your time frame you become depressed and question things you shouldn’t.

Also, being in a social media-driven society I’ve had to get used to putting myself out there quickly! That meant cameras, videos and releasing artwork for others to judge. All things foreign to my reclusive anti-social self.

Biggest lesson I’ve learned is that sometimes the best things in life come out of surprises and are never planned. And also that, not only is it okay to be yourself on camera but it’s actually what will set you apart. So even when you think you’re weird or different… you’d be shocked at how many people will relate to you but are just afraid to show that side of them. So own it.

Please tell us about Alana Christine.
Alana Christine is a realism/pop artist, illustrator, graphic designer, apparel designer, vlogger, YouTuber… it will continue growing because my goal is to brand myself as an art ambassador first, and an artist second. It’s bigger than myself, this is a movement spreading the message to “Support Living Artists”

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a kid was going to the beach every summer and sneaking out at night to go sit on the shore and listen to the waves crash in and smell the ocean. I felt closest to my purpose there for some reason. It put things in perspective for me as to how small we are and what a miracle it was that no matter your circumstances you are still here, on earth, you were chosen….. so do something with that. Make it count, ya know?
