Today we’d like to introduce you to AJ Kalinowski, Scott Wiest.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Ironically, after despising each other for kissing the same girl in middle school, we became best buds. Around the same time, we got our first cameras and began to learn and practice photography everywhere we went. Throughout our time in high school we started to develop our own photographic styles. Along the way, we realized we could make a career doing what we wanted. From then on, our focus has been photography and we wouldn’t have it any other way. After a trip to Europe together, we formed Rogue Photos and began pursuing wedding and portrait photography to fund our travel addiction. Now we’re two years into our business and we’ve built a solid portfolio of wedding, portrait, and travel photography.
Please tell us about your art.
As photographers, we are creating visual art that draws people’s attention and evokes powerful emotion. At weddings, we aim to capture the “in-between” moments that often go unnoticed and use them to elicit euphoric memories. With portraiture, we are looking to emphasize natural beauty and pure expression. In our landscapes, we hope to bring about awe and appreciation for our planet’s natural beauty. We hope that the visuals we create are timeless and could be looked at every day.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
With all the negative media in our lives, we believe the role of artists today is to bring people back down to earth and remind them that the world isn’t all bad. There is hope in human connections and interactions that leads us to live happier and more fulfilling lives. We hope our imagery can provide our viewers a break from the daily chaos and bring peace into their lives.
