Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Moehring.
Hi Aimee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My story started in 2013. I was a stay-at-home Mom who had an addiction to thrifting and decorating. (I STILL love both of those things!) I had found and created more treasures than one person should keep -so I started a Facebook page to sell them on. The page is now plural, a public, and a private group… and an Instagram account. I am grateful for the community of over 2000 individuals that I know of who have come along for the ride and supported me in many ways.
The year I started I applied for a DBA and a TPT license and have been a small local business since! Over the years I have had to morph with demand and trends to stay relevant, so I find myself changing things up every few years. At one time, I sold paint for a product line produced in Florida. I hosted and taught classes at a rented location and shared my passion for paint. REECycling, REEPurposing, and REEdone make REECreations Home Decor what it is.
Last year, I moved to Sun City with my husband (yes, we barely make it age-wise), but I have discovered the Woodshop! I am now cutting some of my own items and painting and selling them. Since 2023, I have found that my real niche moving forward just might be event planning. I am hosting my fourth big show this Fall with over 40 small shops around the Valley.
My church has been kind enough to let me host on their campus. It is a win for all of us, exposure for the church, exposure for small businesses, and a way to keep REECreations relevant in the world of Walmarts and Amazon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road because I have tried to remain flexible and not locked into one product or service over the years. Now, as far as profitable, some years are better than others!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I am most proud of is the charitable contributions the REECreations Community has been a part of! Every Christmas Season we have had a campaign called, “The Spirit of Giving”. Over eleven years, we have donated needed items to Title One Schools, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Billy’s Place, Retirement Homes, Cancer patients, Food Banks, and elderly people who just get lonely around the Holidays! I look forward to this rewarding experience EVERY YEAR, and I think people who follow me do too!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that may be surprising to those who follow me? Well, they may not know that I am terribly scared to speak in person to a public audience. If someone spontaneously hands me a microphone, though, I skip right past the terrible nervousness and can do okay! I am not really good at spontaneity in life, but in public speaking, I do much better than planning ahead!
Being an online contributor, I feel I can be genuine and comfortable speaking to my audience because no one is looking me in the eye at that moment! I don’t script or repeat what I say; I just push record and post… I never want to appear perfect. Life has enough struggles without making others feel inadequate by presenting a false personality online.
