Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Houlihan.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I jumped into Schroth Therapy as soon as I graduated from PT school. It fell in my lap when I met Karen & Susan (the business owners), and I loved how they ran their clinic. Fast forward two years, we are looking to expand the Albuquerque practice, and we all recognized the need for this type of scoliosis treatment in the Phoenix metro area, but there was no one out here offering it. Karen & Susan decided to open a satellite clinic in Scottsdale. Now, Schroth Therapy is widely available to kids (and adults) in the Phoenix metro area for the first time.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not easy getting a small business off the ground, especially in a brand-new city with so few connections. The biggest challenge for us is educating other providers about the efficacy and the value of Schroth Therapy. You can’t exactly walk into a hospital and gather all the surgeons for a quick presentation. The vast majority of practitioners are receptive to the information once it’s presented to them; finding the opportunity to give it has been most challenging. Some of the best research demonstrating the effectiveness of Schroth has emerged just in the last decade, and it has drastically reshaped our “best practice” model, but most people just haven’t heard about it yet.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in the Schroth Method for treating scoliosis. The Schroth Method has been adopted globally as the gold standard for non-surgical intervention. It has been thoroughly researched and consistently demonstrates successful outcomes in halting or reversing scoliosis curves. It differs from traditional physical therapy in that everything we do is tailored to each person’s curve pattern. We are filling what has long been an astonishing gap in the treatment plan for scoliosis. Many doctors will say, “Come back in 6 months, and if the curve is worse, you can start wearing a brace”, but what if you don’t want the curve to get worse?! The Schroth method is a proactive, hands-on, empowered approach to treating scoliosis.
What makes you happy?
I’m a pretty simple guy. I’m happiest gently swaying in my hammock with my wife near a river in Sedona on a sunny day with a book and a nap. I love photography, too, so I would probably step out of the hammock at some point to annoy my wife and take pictures of her. Our first child is coming, so I will have one more hammock buddy and photography subject soon!
