Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Simons.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started playing music about fifteen years ago. Drums and guitar were my first instruments I taught myself to play. From there I began playing in bands and writing songs. It wasn’t until college or so that I took singing and being a solo artist seriously. After touring and making records with several different bands around the valley, I began to craft the idea of a solo project for myself and liked the idea of naming it something other than my name. The title of “Wanderer” had been something I had written down a while before and it just immediately felt right to name the project that. Something that could encompass the vibe I was trying to create, while also having an element of mystery. Wanderer began late in 2016, with the release of my first EP – CITY. From there, I put out several more songs, and eventually a second EP called “SKYLINE.” Fast forward to now and I have just released my debut album – “SONGS FOR THE NIGHT.” My previous releases have all led up to this point, and this marks the first chapter of the Wanderer story. From touring regionally to performing all over Phoenix at venues including The Van Buren and Crescent Ballroom, performing my music live has always been an integral part of bringing this project to life. In 2020 I am aiming to release even more music and tour more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an independent and self-managed artist has its ups and downs. I get to control the process and vision of what I do 100%, but releasing music today is so much more than just uploading a song. Visuals, branding, and other creative elements that coincide with the music have always been super important to me in crafting a product that conveys emotion and nostalgia to the listener. I am lucky enough to have been able to work for myself and play music for a living the past five years. However for many artists, I know that is a huge hurdle to overcome. From here, my challenges come from trying to continue to grow Wanderer on an exponential scale and deliver my music to as many people as possible. While there are many challenges in the way, it is also easier than ever I think for an artist to get their work out there via the internet and to break through what used to be barriers for musicians to be heard.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My business is in making records – writing, recording, releasing and marketing music, and also touring – booking, performing and selling merchandise at shows.
I’d like to think what sets me apart from other artists is my attention to detail in making music and visuals, and also my approach to it as a whole. I want listeners to come away with a sensory feeling from my music, and be taken to a place and time, like my favorite songs do for me.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I try to not take too much stock in things like luck. All the good things that have happened in my career have come from hard work, persistence, and timing. I’d like to think that there are times when the stars align and great things can happen, but I think counting on that is a huge mistake for anyone pursuing a dream. You have to put in the work and the more you do that, the more opportunities will come your way.
