Meet Adam Ramey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Ramey.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was that kid that wasn’t really good at anything and never really knew what I wanted in life. But I knew I loved music, and playing it was the only thing that made me feel alive. Over time, I began to realize that there was no such thing as talent. The human mind has the boundless capacity to seek out anything you put your heart and mind to. If you put TIME and EFFORT and INTEREST into something, and you have a PASSION for it, and you PRACTICE your craft, you WILL become proficient at whatever that is, at some point. My thing is, no one picked up a guitar and just shredded. Even legends sucked at one point. But they had a PASSION and an INTEREST in it, and they PRACTICED and got better. That’s basically my story. Trial and error led me here. Taking chances, and never looking back. I knew I had a passion for music, so I did everything it took to make it real. You can too.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a singer in a band called Dropout Kings. It’s a rap-rock band. We call it “trapmetal.” We’re all about transcending boundaries of genres and life in general, and all limits you put on yourself as a person. People see the word “dropout” in our name, and think “oh, you all dropped out of school?” In reality, if you were to look a little deeper, it represents “dropping out” of mainstream society. Our current way of living. We all took a chance and jumped over the ledge together to do this. We all knew the typical 9-5 life wasn’t for us. So here we are. What we want people to understand is that in life, the only limits you truly have, are the ones you put on yourself. If we can do this, literally ANYONE can. That’s what we want the takeaway to be when you listen to us. We want you to feel SOMETHING. We’re all about taking a closer look into things. Don’t take everything at face value. And all that starts at the band name. At face value, it may read we all dropped out of school. But if you look a little closer, and question things, you start to see the true meaning of what the name truly represents.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I feel like the biggest challenge artists face today is over-saturation in the market place and short attention spans of audience. That aside, creating any type of monetary gain directly from music is quite difficult for small to mid-size artists. Record companies rarely invest in any developing acts. They want a return on investment NOW. They don’t want to take chances anymore. With streaming dominating the industry, They’re forced to adapt, as we are. One of the main reasons an artist needs a record deal is for distribution. But, with physical sales plummeting, and streams on the rise, it leaves artists not necessarily needing or wanting these record deals as they’re currently structured. Artists are wising up. Now, labels will likely be used as more of a “pocket book” for artists for the capitol most artists lack. It’s weird times we live in, and I’m interested to see what comes from it. To touch back on what I was saying earlier, with so many new artists out there, and various social media platforms so readily available for millions of people to use instantly, it’s really hard to “stand out.” On top of that, it’s hard to keep the focus on you. People get bored. You HAVE to connect emotionally to stimulate interest and repeated listens.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
